There are lots of better 1.6 engined cars around than Imprezas.

I think its fair to say that the 1.6 Impreza will have all the scoobys bad points, but with none of the good ones.

you would be better off with 1600 civic or toyota corolla both ultra reliable and both will take a thrashing

My third Subaru was a 1.5l Impreza CS, ran it hard for three years, 130,000 kms, never let me down. I carried fire logs, concrete in the boot, loaned it to friends for a couple of weeks, was a great little car. Gave it to a friend and she sold it a year later for $1500 after putting another 90,000 klicks on it. I did service it every 10,000 kms, and with synthetics too.

A Honda Civic would be a good bet too.

Only take the advice of people who have driven them!

Fantastic car. looks good, with subtle higher model touches. cheap to run, reliable. handle well. brakes aint fantastic but the same as any other spec car. Totally reconmend one.

Friend of mine had a 1.6 4WD wagon for a while, good handling as long as you don't over tyre it, engine pretty peppy for a 1.6 in such a large car, but a little bit thirsty as it needed to be revved hard and was short geared on the motorway.
