UK turbo vs P1
#4
Hi,
Thought I'd post this, experienced it today.
My mate has just picked up his 2000 X uk scooby, and I picked up my P1 last week. After driving them back to back, all out speed I think the P1 would slaughter a UK turbo, there doesn't feel like a turbo kick in the uk model (just feels powerfull through the revs), where as in the P1 you get a big kick.
In the twisties I reckon it'd be close, uk glides over the bumps (maybe a bit too wallowy), whilst the P1 hammers the road to death, but it does get unsettled if the road is v bumpy.
just my subjective opinion guys.
Chris

Okay first answer was rubbish but having owned both this is my feeling.
0-40mph nothing in it.
40-80mph p1 will pull away slowly
80mph+ turbo hits reverse
Add to above much greater in gear flexibility and refinement and better handling set up. Personally I find the whole P1/STi driving experience so much better than turbo but I dont doubt you could probably achieve the same with the right mods. Being able to rev to 8000rpm with the engine still pulling above 5000rpm is great.
Plus if you own a P1 you are one of the elite of course

Chopped my Uk turbo in just before xmas & got my P1
theres no doubt that the P1 is just a different class
the whole package is better handling, acceleration the feel of the car everything
it just feels so much safer & has less flex in the body is suppose cos its 2 dr instead of 4
dont get me wrong i loved my turbo but drive a P1 & you will want one i guarantee it !

Says it all, and we've not even got onto '01s yet
C with equally matched drivers you'll also leave em in the twisties as well. BUT as is often said a Scoob compensates for a poor driver. Follow a good one down the lanes in a sport and who can tell!

A turbo with the right mods does have the ability to outrun a P1, i have done I suspect Mr Tangs old car would have done so as well to a greater extent, but what happens when you mod a P1?

In a straight line without mods the UK Turbo will get slaughtered but get the bunp steer, anti lift done and on real roads it's going to be a match, if not more than, for the P1.
Have to say though the P1 is a class car and given the choice between UK with bump steer and anti lift or standard P1......I'd go for the P1

Its all relative though
Cant afford a p1, if i could, i dont think id get one, but just my opinion
when you compare the price of a uk and a p1, picked a 99 up in mint condition 6 month ago, for 12000, a grand or 2 on mods and there is a very competent car, it’ll far outreach my driving ability.
Some like the fact that they are a select few, that’s cool that’s their want. Me I don’t care about that, I make the car, not the other way around
It puts a smile on my face

Steve, just getting back to your original question (...how much slower is a UK Turbo compared to a P1? )I currently own and drive both vehicles daily (no..I do not drive both at the same time..) and can make my own direct comparison.
IMHO: Lots, but they are completely difference machines designed for very different markets.
luv 'em both,
