![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Looking to do a 2.5litre conversation on my version 2 WRX Jap import Impreza.
I was recommended to use some version 3 or 4 STi heads as my MY96 has hydraulic lifter heads which are not ideal for this upgrade. As they're not very good for producing power consistently.
1) Thing is how much should I pay for a pair of Heads from a version 3 or 4 STi? Every pair that I've found the seller has always said make me an offer, I hate that.
2) Is they any difference between the version 3 or 4?
3) Is they any better pair of heads to use to mate to the 2.5 bottom end?
4) Is there any way to make sure the heads indeed are a pair of version 3 or 4 heads? I would know the difference at the moment.
Cheers guys

Version 3 heads are like rocking horse sh*te! Id be surprised if you can find any: people usually end up buying complete engines for them.

As much as I've read on the subject, the Sti V3 heads and cams are 'the best' as a bolt-on head for the 2.5.
I know someone with a pair on his shelf.(not me) who bought them to have some to supplement his pension in a few years.
A dead Sti V3 engine without ancillaries is a £1000 as the heads are the ones to have.
Same will go for the V4 also.
Recon on a good pair costing £500 to 800.

What power level are you going to?
Lots of people have been getting good figures from non STI heads, the hydraulic ph1 heads are probably the least favourable but MY97-8 UK/WRX heads have solid lifters etc and should be capable of doing the job at 400 of each.
All depends on budget and power goals at the end of the day. But you don't NEED v3/4 sti heads for a 2.5 conversion, but worthwhile if you can get your hands on some for reasonable money
