Default Knocklink & Sensor

I recieved one from Santa today

The instructions seem quite easy to install it.

Just a few things i couldnt find on the search function

1.) Where to fit the Sensor, now what i did find out was, there is a hole on the near side under the IC, but what i couldnt find was a pic, just so i could make sure i get the correct bit.

2.) The correct torque setting for the Sencor, dont wanna over tighten and crush the crystals inside, and at the same time, i dont want to under tighten it and it either work its self loose OR give off a false reading.

3.) Best setting to have it on Min-Max

All help would be much appreated, werther its a link to a thread i couldnt find or just the info im after.

Thanks all, and a Merry Christmas to everybody too

Set it until you don't get a RED light whatever happens and there you go, as far as I understand it.

Enjoy your device - it can do magical things I've seen it called a 'cockLink' on this site over many years for some reason?

Pre-detination
It means the explosion happens before the piston reaches the top of its stroke.
So what happens is the crank turns and pushes the piston up BUT Pre-det happens and trys to push the piston down while the crank is trying to push it up still.
It causes unescary pressure on the crank and can cause bottom end failure

To set corectly you need to drive the car three quarter power ie 5000 rpm and turn the sensitivity untill the first, second led flashes and no others. Then take to redline and you should see only green ones flash, but on change of gear you may get the orange ones flash momentarily if driveing hard.this is how i done my one and this is from my experiance and i never had any engine damage so i think you will be fine doing it this way, best of luck mate

Remember that Subaru provide a Knock Sensor ...... it is connected to the ECU of the vehicle and operates at many times a second to protect the engine.

Subaru see no need for likkle flashing lights to tell you what the knock sensor is seeing - no need, the ECU can alter timing much faster by not informing the driver.

The standard knock link dont work after 5.5k rpm
When driving hard, my revs drop down to 6.5k rpm on gear change

Mines been on for three years. I installed it myself. Tighten finger tight, then nip it up about half a turn, which is plenty.

Sorry, I work in plumber's torque, not engineers

So what do you do with the information that there is knock?

At over 5.5k rpm you're about to change up very quickly anyway so revs are about to drop. If it flashes, do you take it to a mechanic? Do you stop driving it over 5.5k rpm? What?

Thanks Alcazar, I'm just abit paranoid about damiging this over priced pice of kit lol

What i was saying before, when i change gear at 8k rpm, my revs drop down to a min of 6.5k rpm, which means my standard knock sensor isnt in use.
However with the Knock link if it lights up whilst im spanking it, i know to shut off the throttle, and to get it checked out.
With out it, i wont know the engine is knocking, and end up damaging the engine, which cost me alot more money in repair bills.

i fitted my knock sensor purely for the info given back to me on good/bad fuel.

theres been times where ive fitted tesco stuff and get nothing but knock, shell stuff, hardly ever, but have a little at times.

if i was ever stuck and 95/97 ron was the only stuff about theknock link will tell us if its good/bad etc knocking etc

thats why i fitted mine
