hello mate welcome, i was in the same boat as you a year ago, bought my first classic wrx and i couldnt fualt it never ever let me down just a brilliant car, things too look out for are crunching gears, knocking engines on tickover, also warn suspension general wear and tear really, check service history also if its not a fresh import as most fresh imporss lack history also check if you can that it holds good boost via a gauge. what model ae you looking at wrx, sti type r etc. good luck with your search matey

Welcome Chris as

bighead is right in that perhaps you should work out what you have to spend on the car first and foremost. After this, consider costs such as Insurance, petrol and general upkeep. Scoobs are generally good motors - remember the more powerful the car, the more cost of upkeep (incl. insurance). Also remember you have the UK specs and the Jap import specs - the Imports tend to be generally quicker but only a few will insure you on these (from my past experience of having had a STI V4 Type R)

Think you will get a better response if you show what reddies you have to spend on one.

Don`t buy the first one you see. There maybe a better one round the corner. Also try and purchase one from an enthusiast. That way, a large percentage will have been looked after.

If you have a mechanic or friend that is familiar with Scoobs. Take him/her along to help you. I don`t know whether you are mechanically competent etc thats all.

Welcome to Scoobynet btw.

Good Luck

Oh and a great car IS worth travelling for.
