Hi Guys/Gals,
I have just taken in a Subaru Impreza Turbo 4Dr WRX STI I have been told it is a version 4 But I do not know how to tell. If Anyone can help that would be great. Pics of the car are on westlodgemotorcompany.co.uk.

Check the Applied Model Number: this is the only way to be sure. Youll find it on the build plate on the near side inner wing. It starts GC8 followed by an age identifying letter (which established the model year). This is followed by three further characters, the last of which will be a D (for manual transmission), the two before the D identify the model (eg 48D WRX, 47D Type-RA, ED STI & DD STI Type-RA).

As said above you can tell by the number.
If it's the silver R reg on your site at first glances it doesn't seem to have STI seats which would send alarm bells ringing for me...

The car on that website is a ver4. You can tell by old style bumper with facelift bonnet, facelift style grille although differant to ver5 as it doesn't stick out over front bumper. You can also tell when you open the bonnet and the dump valve comes off the intercooler onto a hose, where ver 5 are flange mounted to intercooler

I thought from Ver 4 onwards that all body parts were colour coded - as side skirts and rear spats are plain black. Therefore I guess you need to find out if it's an STi rather than just a WRX with added bits too.
Also, front and rear spoilers are aftermarket but I guess you know this already.

GC8E48D is a MY98 WRX - there is a list of the codes here Eta Tauri Site Impreza Reference - WRX Frenzy - looks like you should get your website updated asap as you wouldnt want to be adverstising it as an STi when it isnt.

Surely if you're getting stung for the high tax, you should be rolling around on a new style plate?? Reason being its for cars registered after 23rd March 2006...

I see what you're saying, **** that... I was getting confused as someone I know just took a private reg off a GT4 he bought and got his registration back as a 2000 X reg, despite it being a 1994 car.

Jesus, I was worried there. My 1996 STI 3 is still £180/yr to tax, even though it was registered in April 2007.
Does this have something to do with whether the car has been through an SVA? No CO2 data would have been recorded as my car was >10 years old at registration so didn't have an SVA.
