Default Getting a MOT done when your car is SORN

Two of my cars are SORN at the mo, and would like to get them MOT'd shortly, is it legal to drive to a MOT?

They are both insured so thats not an issue.

Is there any thing to say you need to go to your closest MOT station as my "friendly" one is 40 miles from my home.

If I remember right, as long as they are booked in you can drive them to and from the place of test...

I wouldn`t have thought so, if you can prove you are going.

Ant

What would happen if you lived miles from a garage? You would have no choice but to drive xx miles for an MOT.

There isnt a restriction on the mileage, but itll ****-off a Traffic Police officer if youre on a world tour...

I have driven several cars from Southampton and Tilbury docks to MOT appoinments in Sheffield without issue.

You do need an mot to insure it without it it's invalid, just because they don't ask to view it doesn't mean you don't need it.
But as above i'm sure it's perfectly legal to drive to a pre-booked appointment at an mot garage

Cookstar top question .

I've finally got permission from the fun and finance minister to buy a cheap commuter/runabout next autumn so the Scoob will be SORN for 6 months from the end of October. The MOT runs out November and I was wondering how I would get the car MOT'd the following April. So you can drive it to the MOT testing station with no valid MOT or road tax, then get the car taxed after the MOT. Is this right?

Wolfie.

I believe so, as long as it's a pre arranged appointment.

I don't know about Cookstar but in my case I guess I could get it MOT'ed near the end of October before I SORN the car and before the road tax runs out at the end of October . Why didn't I think of that .

Bit of a waste of money though, putting your car through an mot then putting it off road.
