Default Penalty points and advising insurance company's

Already posted this in the Insurance section but thought i might get more replies in here:-

In december I got 4 points on my licence for driving withput due care, I crossed the path of a motorbike at night which had no lights on and it's my fault??

Anyway, that's by the by now, I pleaded not guilty and got 4 points at court, my insurance is up for renewal in june this year, do I need to notify the insurance company of my points now or can I hold off till renewal?

Thanks

its only at renewal that points/convictions need to be added to the policy.

I would advise reading your policy's T&T. I believe some require you to notify them about convictions straight away. Worst case scenario you'll void your policy come claim time.

I don't believe that for a second.

Your license has changed since taking out the policy, which is no different than changing your alloys and not telling them. Why give them the oppotunity not to pay up if you need to claim?

It probably won't even cost you any extra.

can it not depend on if you pay insurance in installments or in full? if it is already paid in full for the year you will be fine. if not, then it maybe worth checking.

Hmm, well it's paid in full, and I did claim through insurance following the accident so they are fully aware, think I best check, don't want to invalidate my insurance

I got an SP30 just after a took out a policy.. I only told them when i renewed and they didnt care.. didnt even effect the policy.

But for driving without due care they might come down a bit stronger on that.

i told em about my sp30 straight away and it made it about £35 more expensive.
best to let them know in my opinion just incase you need to claim and the ******* invalidate the policy.

Depends who you are insured with.

Most companies i know of don't need to know untill renewal, but check with yours to be on the safe side

Just be careful they only charge an additional premium for adding it rather than an admin fee. Some companies will could not need to charge you any more, but charge a £25 fee just for making a note on your policy.

If it was me I'd tell them, even if it costs a few quid it's better than them deciding not to pay out if you have a bump

The majority of insuers take no notice of the first speeding ticket now so shop around if they charge you.
