Default WRX now out of warranty...& daughter at Uni!

With a daughter going to Uni this year I've shelved plans to buy a new car for a while as my wallet is needed elsewhere.

So I want to try and make my standard WRX (54 plate) feel like a new car for a while. I love the car with its blend of performance with reasonable economy and it's still a looker (in my opinion) so it's not all bad.

With the car just out of warranty I don't necessarily have to go the PPP route. A while back on this forum I saw the advice below as an alternative to PPP, is this still good advice - does anyone have any other ideas...and if so does anyone know of a garage in the Middlesbrough area (would be willing to go to Newcastle area if needed) where I could get the job done reliably?

Similar results to the PPP would be nice, say an extra 40BHP or so - as long there wasn't a massive detrimental impact of fuel economy.

Prodrive Sports Cat Downpipe - £200
Haywood & Scott Up-pipe & Centre decat sections £215 in total
Prodrive rear box £85
Prodrive Intercooler Y pipe £40
Pat Herborn remap £500

Default To be

honest that is probably a better option than PPP. PPP is mainly just throw as much fuel at the engine as possible where as a remap gets you the best fuel regulation. I have PPP and at 22-23mpg I would like to have the car remapped just for the extra miles per gallon which I have been reliably informed would give me an extra 2 or so per gallon maybe more. The only thing stopping me is money
I hope to put it right soon and as an extra I might get a few more ponies

id add walbro fuel pump and sti green panel air filter then the mapper can take it a bit further also think about anti lift kit rear drop links and roll bar and some uprated pads that will realy make it feel like a new car!! and good old lazer alignment worth its weight in gold..

Just out of interest and not much help to the original poster!

I've never got below 28mpg out of a tank in my 03 PPP, on a good 60-70 A road run I can easily get low 30s - motorway at 80 sees 30mpg.

MPG is calculated from fill up every time. I run V-Power. I don't thrash hell out of it but then again I don't drive like a granny! I'm shocked at your low 20s!

I had all the above but without the ALK (dont think there is any need at that power and use) and it came in around the £1500 mark I went for good parts and all wok was carried out by ZEN I am sure you could go cheaper but I never wanted to regret where I took the car or the parts that went on ….. O and she goes like **** off a shovel …….. Just need more power again now once you start its hard to stop

Enjoy
