what are you wanting james?
£3-£4k is plenty![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
a uk car may have higher mileage but it will be cheaper to insure as they have less power (210 bhp iirc)
an import will have more options such as air con, double din hu and a few other little extras, also more power (240 bhp iirc)
personally every impreza wagon I have had has been an import and insurance isnt an issue, just talk to gary moulson on here (moleywrx)
theres plenty about, id personally avoid an auto as the value is considerably less and they are a pain to sell.
welcome to scoobynet btw![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

id say go for an import, the insurance isnt that different, if you click on moleywrx thats highlighted it will let you send him a message, he will give you a better idea of insurance cost differences. its not that much different, it will be less than you save on purchase price im sure ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
when you look for a wagon, go for as much history as possible and as few engine modifications as possible (none would be best)
hth (hope that helps)

So you're in the market for a Classic shape with that sort of dosh.
Read and digest this: Subaru Impreza FAQ
Certainly helped me have a better idea of what to look for when I bought mine. Plenty more info and helpful folks on this site to answer any questions

Whilst you can get a perfectly good scoob for 3-4k, it's a potential minefield, espeically if you don't have any extra money to spend on TLC and consumables. For starters, I'd advocate that you get the car independently inspected, could save you a LOT of money. Well looked after ones are very reliable, but maintaining a fixing these cars ain't cheap and you'll be looking at an age group where consumables may need replacing. Did you know, for example, that replacing a clutch on a scooby is a circa 4 hour job? have you looked into servicing costs and insurance (especially if you're under 25?)
Not trying to scare you off, but just go into this with your eyes open and get knowledgable help is all I'm saying!
