only on a short lunch break so cant afford the time to search, so sorry in advance!
Im looking for information about the type-r and ra, as im thinking about purchasing one in august spetember time this year, so here goes.
What are the vehicle weights?
what are the main differences between the cars? I know about the doors, so im talking about performance differences. I heard somewhere the R has a much stronger gearbox, but does that mean the RA's is a weak point? Any other things to look out for and avoid?
Any perticular things to avoid when looking at spec lists such as 'upgraded ecu to xyz', or suspension or anything?
And what sort of price would i be looking at now for a good example of each?
cheers

There really is a wealth of information on here, as well as :: Subaru Impreza Type R RA Register regarding the differences between the various models & also model years (of manufacture).
It depeands on the level of detail you need to know, but it's best by far to invest some time in searching, particularly if your looking at spending real money on one....

Both cars have similar gearboxes, the RA comes with an engine oil cooler, the R doesnt, the RA is basically race altered, the R stands for Retna which was the codename for the shell.
The RA is the slightly more focused car, its also slightly lighter, but its swings and roundabouts after that, just depends on what you prefer, 2 or 4 door, though there were some very limited 2 door type RA's about.

Overlooked as always, is that the WRX Type-RA was the cheapest turbocharged model in the range. The cheapest. I'll say it again, it was the cheapest model.

its a good site that one. Which one would be better as a weekend only car, an sti ra or type r? Ive heard that the tyoe-r is the ultimate? I have an 04 sti at the moment but im toying with the idea of an exige s but cant see the point when it rains 9 months of the year, especially at the moment. Saying that i bet theres a hose pipe in place tomorrow.

The Type R's and Type RA's are really focused cars, much more precise and very very raw (you hear and feel everything in them and not the most comfortable rides).
Performance wise you can't compare, I find my STi RA an absolute animal, frightening pace through the gears (quickshift) as well as an insane 0-60 time. Depending on which model you go for the weight can vary but they are all lighter than standard cars.
The V-Limited are the heavier but better specced version, full electrics and other toys. I have the lightweight model which has all the electrics stripped out (manual wind windows and mirrors), I think kerb weight for mine is approx 1250kg but don't quote me on that figure.
You can't go wrong with either one really, the Type R's look nice with the 3 door shell, otherwise the saloon and coupe are the same. The DCCD takes some getting used to though and the DCCD equipped car's don't have ABS either.
Plenty of posts on the DCCD function, worth reading up as you don't want to end up spinning the car because you didn't set the car up properly - best place for all the info is Type-RA.co.uk - Home of the Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA, Impreza WRX STi Type RA, Impreza Type RA V Limited, Scooby V. Ltd, visit the WRX forum & Subaru forum
Hope that helps,
Fz
