guys was driving into work this morning, and was behined a fellow classic owner,
we were sitting in traffic and as it went clear he put his foot down, there was a little condensation and as he hit what i assume was boost a puff of black smoke came out!!!
what would cause this would it be over fueling or the turbo on the way out etc etc, just i wonder how many of us drive around looking forward not noticing what is coming out of the rear.
any thoughs

Black is fuel, so too rich, most engines (not sure about the EJ) start producing black smoke rich of 9:1, probably a combined result of cold enrichmnet and a big transient compensaion from flooring it, plus some dodgy mods!
(white is condensation, blue is oil)

overfuelling is a bit safer than underfuelling but it still isnt safe as it can cause bore wash which means petrol gets in with the oil and then the engine is lubed with this oil petrol mix. Long term not very healthy!!

sorry, just to add to comment above...that is with it standing in the drive ticking over, not booting it. usually let the car heat up before I even move it.
