Default Engine fault light

My engine fault light came on before Christmas and when I put my car in for a service, I told the Subaru dealer about it. Once it was serviced, they said they had identified the fault (misfiring or something) and the light was off.

However, it came back on within a day. And a couple of weeks later, I took it in again. They then told me it was an old fault and the light should stay off now.

But no, the ****ing light came on AGAIN in the new year and it's still on and I don't know what to do. The car runs absolutely fine and I don't want to pay three times for the same problem which hasn't been fixed.

The light flashes when I accelerate at high speeds and then stay illuminated thereafter.

Anyone had the same problem? My car is a 2001 WRX bug eye.

Hi
There is a procedure to read the fault codes on my classic don't know about the newage cars by connecting 2 black (read) connectors together under the dash and the check engine light will flash the fault code, then you will know whats wrong.
Is the car still missfiring when you accelerate or is it just the light that is coming on and the car feels fine? If so it could just be a faulty check engine light coming on when it shouldn't..

Excuse my ignorance but, what exactly does misfiring mean?

How would I know if the car had previously misfired?

Missfire feels like the car is coughing in addition to a slight loss in power with the revs dropping slighly. Usually 9 times out of 10 caused by either the maf sensor, spark plugs or coil packs...

My 99MY sets a fault on Mway inclines if I accelerate up them at circa 85-90mph, almost everytime, I've heard of a number of others that do the same, so Subaru's calibration of the diagnostics is obviously a bit wayward, maybe it carried on to 01MY?

I had the same problem with my bugeye WRX 2001, must have had the CEL turned off 6-8 times, eventually I got pi$$ed off and for the past two years have driven round with it on all the time. It gets turned off at service then two or three days later its back on, but shows no fault code.

I have my CEL light on too so will be interested to hear what folk think !

I've heard the lambda could also be the cause ? Or would that not apply if the error code refers to misfiring ?
