I drove my Classic all the way to Chamonix. It handles it just fine. I don't know what would make you think it can't handle a few hundred mile drive.
Prolonged hHigh speed with the small scoop is not advisable. But the G's are very sneaky, so you might not be caning it.
Got pulled by the G's MY04 WRX last year.

Just make sure you check all the fluids, take spare oil/coolant with you, make sure spare tyre is in good etc etc. Basic stuff really.

we took two mobile phones, food, flask of coffee and spare clothes and passports.
In the end it worked out just fine, i covered the 12 miles with ease and got back in one piece. Clever things these scoobs

P.S. i covered some 60k in mine some at well over 100MPH where roads, conditions and plod would allow. Never, ever missed a beat.

Drove my old trusty '96 WRX to Ze ring last year and it was utterly faultless. 600 miles there (approx) a good 30 laps and then 600 miles back. It was literally faultless. Never had such a reliable car as that and Ive had a few over the years. Petrol wasnt cheap mind.

I probably drive mine 200 miles a week or so.. I check tyre preasures, oil/coolant on the weekends unless i not something amis... In the 9 months I have owned her, i had a slowe leak from power steering resevoir and I have a slow puncture in my rear tyre. Other wise It hasn't missed abeat.
I bought the subaru as i wanted a reliable daily driver with a bit of bottle behind it.. However If I go for a weekend away in my land rover, i have ep90,engine oil, coolant, hydraulic flud, ratchet set, spanners, lump hammer, recovery kit all with me just incas ethe inevitable happens lol

Pre '96 Japanese cars might not have the EU deflanging inverted spatchcock fitted required for driving on the right for more than five minutes. Failure to have the spatchcock fitted could result in your wheels falling off and the spontaneous combustion of your windscreen wipers.

Been to France numerous times in 3 different scoobies. Biggest trip was in my 2000 turbo wagon, 4,800 miles in 3 weeks including about 1,800 miles on autoroutes, before the French cracked down on speeding, so a typical speed of 120mph for long periods. Not a single problem. And my typical daily drive is 3 miles each way to work, twice a day at no more than 35 mph. Long gone are the days of touring kits. Always assuming your car isn't a liability already of course.

Did a 2,000 mile round trip in my WRX a few years ago.
Headed to Italy via France (in two days), and then came back via Stelvio Pass, Switzerland and France to spend a weekend at the Le Mans 24 hour race.
The car has also done a few miles of high speed driving in France - never had a problem that stopped me getting home!

What's all this about the standard scoop on a classic not being any good and that high speed for prolonged periods is bad?
This is the second thread I've seen this mentioned in this week. What is considered high speed?
Can someone please explain - I do over three hours a day in my car, 80% motorways.
Cheers!

Don't forget that all post-97 cars have the issue with the reciprocating flange bracket and foo-foo valve. If not correctly attended to, this can result in serious damage to the turbo.
Most members have fitted a DFA(*) button, which can eradicate the anomaly in one fell swoop.
Hope this helps![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

you ask a question and you get silly answers.
I heard from someone that if you drive for long preiods at highspeed on the motorway it can damage your car cos its high performace.
And as my cars 94 well i had problems with my 96 car. so just wondering cos the age and its a subaru which is more complex is it ok. thats all.

Only joshing ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
The *ONLY* issue was extended high revs (ie high speed), stopping for fuel, then going back up to the speed without cooling the engine down.
I can remember many moons back there was a new P1 (goes to show how long ago it was!!
) and the picture was that of it's engine in component parts on a garage floor in France.......
Jjust ensure that the cooling is correctly observed - it wil be fine. These cars are built like brick ****-houses!! As long as you look after it in the right way![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Took mine to ED last year, I cheated and blocked the BCS pipe to keep it on just actuator boost, kept speed below 90 most the time, average just over 30mpg (Ok it was 30.13!) for the trip, no probs...

That's why the hawkeye has a different bonnet and smaller scoop - better aerodynamics.
It's not an issue for most people mate, unless you do sustained high speeds, so wouldn't worry about it! Tends to be a bit overstated on here.
