trade insurance on car
#2
Well anyone can......if they trade cars.
Though I have never been asked to, I guess you might be required to prove you do actually buy and sell or fix cars in order to satisfy a claim. They are wise to people using a trade policy to thinly disguise lower premiums for performance cars and normally the cheaper ones exclude performance cars altogether for social domestic and pleasure and only cover you if you are working.
If you do trade cars though it's a winner

I used to have a traders policy, I used to be a trader, self employed mechanic hence needing one.
I made a claim on it one year when I wrote my MR2 Turbo off and i had to produce 3 years books to them to prove I was trading before they would even entertain looking at the claim.
Be warned, traders policies are fine for the odd producer but if you need to claim, they'll want more than, I buy and sell a couple of cars a year, they will want to see evidence and if you can't produce evidence then your insurance will be void and the tax man will have a few choice questions to ask also. Even if you say its to allow you to work on friends cars at weekends on a non profit basis, they will revoke your cover.
Thats speaking from experience.
Best to play safe and tell the trouth when applying and make sure you are covered properly.

Its quite an interesting one.. My mate has agarage and obviously traders insurance, he jumps in and out of whatever car as he is covere don them. Now I do the odd car now and then and do work on a few of my mates and buy heaps to break..
Wouldn't make me a trader but its a right PITA moving cars as im only insured on me scoob/landy.. (I usually ask my mate to get cars mot'd as he is insured !)
