Default STi PPP 03/04 vs 06 2.5 WRX PPP ??

Hi, I'm after a bit of advice/opinions please, as I was after buying an STi PPP about 03 or 04 , after driving one and becoming hooked. However, I've just seen an 06 2.5 WRX with PPP for about the same money. Does anybody know what the power figures are for the 2.5 PPP,bhp/torque ,and how it would compare to the version 8 STi . I'll probably go and test drive it but it's about 80 miles away so I'd like a bit of advice first.
Many thanks,
Vance

Thanks Dave ,that's the 2.0 graph, I was wondering what difference the PPP made to the 2.5 engine? Anybody on here got a 2.5 wrx PPP'd? Any thoughts on the difference between 2.0 and 2.5 engines?
Thanks

As far as I am aware the difference is supposed to be around 18BHP (03/04/05 PPP=c.300BHP. 06/07 PPP=c.318BHP). Although the weight factor for both cars may make them on par. I.e the 03/04/05 blobeyes are slightly less weighty than the 06. But someone should be able to come along to give you the details. There maybe betrter potential to mod the 2.5 than the 2.0 litre but don't quote me on that.

I think you'll find that the 2.5 WRX with PPP is lower power than a 2.0 STi PPP.

Torque on the 2.5 engine is spread across the range so although there's still the manic grin on the face when the power comes in it's not as pronounced as on a 2.0. The 2.5 also doesn't rev quite as high so bear in mind when comparing 0-60 times that the 2.5 includes changing up into third while the 2.0 is still (just) in second.

What you really want is a 2.5 STi with PPP

Mods wise general consensus appears to be that 350bhp on a 2.5 is a sensible limit on stock internals although there will be people who have gone beyond that and got away with it.

2.5 WRX PPP is 266 bhp, 0-60 is 5.3 (420 Nm) (From Subaru website for the 07)

Thanks for the replies, I'd love a 2.5 sti ppp, but can't afford one unfortunately! I'm off tomorrow and am going to test drive the 06 2.5 wrx ppp, but have the chance of an 04 sti ppp for about £900 more, so will try and compare them. Sti's in silver though with silver wheels, bit undecided on that combo!

if you can get the 05 sti ppp, no ones mentioned above the better brakes on the sti plus the dccd box and the slightly better suspension. also car tax goes up on cars registered after (i think) march 06

It's another reason I'm going to try the hawkeye because it's a jan 06 and therefore £205 tax, must be a rare car with PPP?

Tried both today, 2.5 wrx ppp and 2.0 sti ppp, both excellent cars but the sti just felt and looked special. The 2.5 was smooth with good low down grunt but the sti was just ballistic ,with a better sound. The gearbox was excellent, felt very mechanical ,if that makes sense. So if anybody knows of an sti ppp for sale, up to a max of £14000 ,please let me know!!
Want that one!

Regardless of age I'd always be choosing the STi PPP over the WRX PPP, as others have mentioned the gearbox, suspension, brakes etc are all upgraded on the STi.

I have had 2.0 WRX and currently have a 2.5 WRX. The 2.5 doesn't have the explosion of power just beyond 3000rpm. However, in general, I prefer the 2.5 as there is continuous power in every gear, you can just about keep up with a standard 2.0 STi.

Had a test drive of a 2.5WRX PPP and I loved it. That is what I would buy if the prices are similar.

I used to have a 2.0ltr STi PPP, and have now got a 2.5 WRX PPP (GB270).

The STi feels a whole lot more manic than the 2.5 WRX, feels more rapid. I'm not sure what It would be like head to head in "real" terms. I've heard folk say that on a cross country run the 2.5 lts engine, and the 5 speed box is better - Smoother power delivery, and less gear changes etc. Havent explored the truth of it yet, as I'm still breaking the new car in.

Oh the STi is more manic & involving, but that's half of the beauty. Feels like you're driving, you even wish for a 7th sometimes

I've decided on the 2.0 blobeye sti ppp but was wondering if there's much difference in the ride and handling of the 05 model v9 from the 03/04 model years? I had a brief drive in an 05 model and found it less forgiving than an 04 one I tried. Was that just me or is there a noticeable difference?
Thanks for any advice

£14k... you could get a 2.5 Sti for that... prolly an 06 with 20K + miles. I would always go for the STi over the WRX though.

If you are set on the blobeye look to the WR1... despite the colour. And there's nowt wrong with silver with silver wheels
