Glass's guide prices realistic?
#1
Bought a new car for the girlfriend on Saturday and while we were there I got talking to the dealer about the Impreza. I told him how I was interested in selling it so he let me have a look through his Glass's Guide.
Now my car is a W reg MY00 and the book said that it was worth £14,400 (not sure if this is with aircon or not?). Now to me this seems VERY optimistic and I doubt if I tried every dealer in the country I would be able to get anything near this price. Parkers price guide gives a dealer price on this car as £13,995 which again I think is probably on the optimistic side.
On another note he also told me that Audi TT's had lost £500 in value this month and £950 the month before!!

Glasses guide is much more realistic figure wise than say Parkers, in some cases it's accurate but in others it seems way out, But 90% of car dealers / traders use glasses guide, bearing in mind tho that they will quote you on the trade figure to buy from you and look to sell it at the retail figure, so for a private sale i would go between the two figures....

Glass's guides are more realistic in that the trade use them. Prices stated are averages and are obtained by going to a set number of dealers each month. You only have to look at the dealer ads. in something like Autocar to see the wide disparity in prices. In effect it's simply giving you an idea of what you should be selling/buying at. Dealers only tend to let you look at them to show you how generous they are with your p/x or whatever.
