It was an RB Limited edition + £1,000worth of fuel to whoever wins the competition.

I missed the start of 5th Gear, anyone see the Lotus Carlton v Lotus and, what won?

Thanks.

Regards

VXR8 was about 1.5 seconds quicker than the Lotus, I was expecting the Lotus to come out on top.

Cheers ALLAN P>

Would have thought the same myself.

I think the Lotus Carlton in it's day, was the fastest production car, around 180mph, am I right?

Regards.

Yes but it was based on a big exec type car thats about 20 years old, yes old cars can sometimes be faster then their younger brothers but normally the handling is not in the same league. I am not at all suprised that the VXR8 won.

I think on a dry track the Lotus would have come out better. A longer track would have been an advantage too.

Remember the Lotus has Turbo's and apparently the lag is quite huge. The VXR8 would have the advantage accelerating around the corners. In a straight line, once the Turbo's were blowing, the Lotus would pull ahead.

I was hoping the Lotus would come out on top as well... An "understated icon" if ever there was such a thing. Not the fastest production car when launched, but the fastest 4 door saloon.

As for the RB5, I missed that bit of the show - only saw the repeat of the question... Anyone know who the car came from?

As an aside, I think the show's got better this series.... Do I need to get my coat?...

Getting rid of Lovetool helped, a bit..!

Of an average 60min episode there's usually about 5mins worth watching..

They were sideways throughout the lap in the Lotus, hardly a fair comparison was it, If they were both pushed to the limits on a dry track, it may have been fair!

I'd imagine that the ESP and traction control in the VXR helped it post better times. Not to mention the fact that the Carlton wasn't 'box fresh'.

True, IIRC the Lotus did close the gap in the middle section.
