Bigger turbo mate. TD05 18g if you don't care if the gearbox gives up!

The rest of your mods would play a good supporting role. You would benefit from 550cc injectors though.

Dont mean to hi-jack thread...but i'm considering a considerable power hike myself on a uk classic. currently at about 260Bhp. What kind of money are you talking for a gearbox that can take power above 300 without complications, and which one? Will an import sti box do?

Many thanks, Alan

It's not that swapping injectors will gain bhp per se, it's just that your 440s will max out at 330-340ish bhp mate, so below the limits of the bigger turbo you'll need for the increase in torqu you crave e.g. the 18g. I'm not sure of cost TBH

Torque, not bhp killls gearboxes mate.

My std box has been ok at just under 320 lbs ft, std boxes can take this power if they've had a good previous life and are mapped and driven sympathetically.

To be assured of a box that'll take more than 350lbs ft or so you'll need a 6 speed from a new age STi (circa 2.5 k supplied and fitted) or a PPG gearset (about 3k supplied and fitted)

Use the current box till it breaks then replace, it may last longer than you think, but get saving!

As NS04 says, an 18G with 550 injectors might get you to around 360 bhp.
If you run Octane Booster that will allow for a bit more ignition advance and a slight uplift in boost pressure and you will have that much more torque.

Cheers NS04, i do run millers octane booster.
I already have a andy forest hybrid, what would be the best turbo to get to me to 360, also would it be necessary to change the box aswell.

TD05 18G should do nicely!

Keep the box, well mapped and driven sympathetically it may last a while; you may as well use it till it breaks in any case.

Budget expecting to replace it though circa 2k for a Sti 6 speeder or nearer 3k for a built PPG.

STi 6 box has OEM gears... generally good for 400/400

PPG is a company that make uprated gears, you fit these to your standard housing, can take much more power, costs about £2.5k ex vat with billet selectors, labour to fit is extra. Straight cut or helical, straight is stronger but louder

YouTube - PPG Gear box - Ignition DVD

Edit: thought you meant version 6, not 6 speed. 6 speed STi box is very strong too

6 speed is the one you get in a new age STi; much stonger than 5 speeder in classics. PPG is a built 5 speed gearset also much stronger than the std 5 speeder, especially good if you're planning to drag the car AFAIK

Speak to David at Api for an expert view though.
