Default paintwork on rear bumper

afternoon all,

girlfriend scraped the rear bumper of a classic wrx a few weeks ago in our flats car park...she did the decent thing and put her contact details on the windscreen...

owner has just come to her with a quote, saying chips away wanted 400 quid and a local subaru specialists in arlesly, beds, has recommended fitting a new bumper at 350 quid...

these quotes sound a bit high to me...anyone have any thoughts? shes willing to cough up without going through insurance but obviously i dont want her to get ripped off for doing the right thing...

damage is a couple of scrapes and quite a long scratch; nothing major...

cheers, bri...

So £750 total?????

Nerr, that's not right. My wifey cracked our bumper and a few small other things. Price was not near that, even with new bumper, done at an expensive coachworks.

Don't halfrauds do these sorts of repairs? If I remember rightly, it was only something like £40 - £60 to sort a bumper scrape.

£400 seems really high for a repair job, but I can believe the £350 for a replacement bumper direct from Subaru as this was a similar price I had for a replacement front bumper for a classic!!

In the end I bought and fitted a second hand job for £25 which had no scrapes or blemishes.

Perhaps it might be an idea to contact chips away and ask them if this seems like a correct price as I thought they were supposed to be cheaper because of their special paint which doesn't need to be baked.

That sounds more like a bodyshop price to me!

no, no, no...thats 2 different quotes...!!!

i thought it seemed a bit high...think i will call chips away, and even try and source a replacement bumper for him myself...

how much of a compromise is fair though...?

If it is just scraped (through to plastic) I paid 120 at a decent bodyshop, so if the scratch isn't too big pay no more.

Can you post a picture?
