Default Should I accept a 3rd party alarm/immobiliser?

I'm picking up my 04 Sti today. When I called the dealer to arrange this, he informed me that the manufacturers alarm was draining the battery so they have fitted a 3rd party thatcham approved cat1 alarm as they could get a subaru replacement.

I read recently about the autolock feature on the Subaru (not sure if it is on my model), if the new alarm doesn't have this I will refuse the car as it is bad enough that I have to have another fob on the keyring.

Can anyone confirm if a 04 WRX Sti has the autolock feature?

Thanks,

I thought the battery failures were due to the Tracker not powering down correctly - nothing to do with the std alarm?
If they are muddling the Tracker up with the alarm then are they also disconnecting both?
This may cause a problem with insurerers as many require a tracker to be fitted and working.

Autolock is a feature on the standard STi alarm system, but has to be activated first.

When you say dealer, is this a proper IM Subaru dealership?

He said alarm/immobiliser, I will be checking the implications with the tracker, locking doors and insurance.

They are a genuine Subaru dealer, and are listed on the Subaru website. What I can't understand is why they can't replace it with a manufacters alarm, perhaps they wanted to fit a cheaper alternative.

No need for a tracker with quite a lot of insurers.

What make/model is the 3rd party alarm. Try pushing them for a Clifford Blackjaxx or similar. Would be better anyway.

Thanks for the replies!

My insurance quote (which I have purchased) was reduced by £400 when I mentioned the tracker.

The alarm has already been fitted, I am going to ask him again what it is. Didn't hear Blackjaxx mentioned tho.

I found this about them, it will be interesting to see what model they have fitted.

I have been doing a bit of research and found the answer on our very own scoobynet!!!

People seem to like them, I just hope the insurance does.

Positive responses there. That's good news. If it's CAT1 thatcham approved, i don't think the insurers care if it's a FreddyKreugar alarm.

Just checked with the insurance and they don't mind I just need to sent them a copy of the documents / certificates.

So in 1.5 hours I will be the proud owner of my first scooby!! Can't wait.

Well I got the car! The alarm is the top of the range meta, which put's my mind at ease.

I was a bit of an anti-climax, but I think it is because I have waited 2 weeks for it. I think a spirited drive this weekend will brighten me up tho.

Thanks for the advice.
