Be a bit more specific with the year mate.
The classic sti (upto 2000) is very different to the classic wrx (upto 2000).
They go in model year (MY). Both the MY97 and MY99 had face-lifts.

Gearboxes are very different as are the way the engine delivers the power. The sti's rev higher too.

Most classic sti's did 0-60 in 4.8 seconds or so. Wrx's on the other hand were more around the 5.3-5.5 mark. Please don't use this as the sole reason to purchase an sti though. They are a bit harder to live with due to less sound proofing and the closer ratio box.

Love mine though!

With Facelift!

in 2006 i had a crazy my93 wrx with around 280bhp and loved it, since then i have had 5 cars, volvo v70 t5 - bmw 325i schnitzer - rover 220 turbo and its NOT the same, they dont even come close to the scooby, i have a budget of £3,000 and want to get the most for my money, i am very keen on high bhp and am thinking that the the standand my95 would be quicker than the my97 wrx facelift

Thanks David

You mean a 95 sti? You'll struggle to get a decent one for 4K, let alone 3K!

Right. Classic refers to all imprezas upto 2001 where the bugeye model was introduced. The classic impreza had two face lifts, one in 1997 and one in 1999.
The first pic is of a standard MY97 sti 3. To get it looking as it does in the second picture (MY99) I added the following:

Crystal head lights (MY99)
MY99/2000 grille, front bumper.
MY99/00 fog light covers
Sti MY99/2000 rear wing.

Didn't change the bonnet. The grill and headlights change the front end quite a lot.

This is a pre MY97 facelift. Basically its the first incarnation of the impreza, with no face lift. Clear enough?

The best one you can afford. Can't really offer any better advice!
