Default Gearbox... Good read???

Well i thought so anyway!

After having another gearbox go on me i had a good look around the net and found this good little read up on how to be nice to your gearbox.

I still think it was rubbish gearboxes though

mate thats a great article.
I own a 2003 bug eye wrx and the transmission blew up on that - no fault of my own.

Just shows there actually was a flow with the transmission!!

A lot of that is common sense!

'Apply the handbrake if moving away on a hill'. Really?

Its very basic common sense - most of which was taught by my driving instructor a long time ago (he was a very good instructor though).

Clutch pedal/throttle modulation, matching revs, correct engagement of 1st gear (funnily, doesn't mention it there), handbrake usage..etc

Its all mechanical sympathy.

Drive an early 80's 911 or series Land Rover (or any vintage car, really) and one quickly learns to appreciate the correct method works alot better than the "lazy/ignorant" method.

The amount of modern cars I come across with sloppy gearshifters caused by people using to much force to engage gears...only needs one or two fingers worth of force to change gear...not a whole arm and fist.
