Default Which Exhaust?

Currently have a HKS full system but think it still has both CATS and a big silencer on the back box, its very quiet all the time. Hardly even hear it when idling.
Want something thats a bit louder with a nice burble but not too loud.
My last WRX had a loud system (not sure of name) but it was a bit too loud.

What exhaust system or back box would you recommend that sounds good and not overly loud?

Its a 97 STI.

Any help would be great.

I've just fitted a afterburner vortex backbox and couldn't be happier with it, great sound on tickover and an awsome sound under boost

I'd buy it at that price but pickup wouldnt be an option as it would cost me about £160 in petrol to get down there and back.

Cheers tho.

The ninja is not as loud as the afterburner, but everyone will still be aware of what you're driving.

will listen to some sound clips later when i'm not at work.
reckon it'll be the afterburner tho.

Do you think I should go for just the back box or is it worth the hassle of getting the de-cat centre/downpipe and having to get it changed over for the MOT each year.
I gather it will also be even louder if I get the full de-cat system?
Think it'll just be the back box i'll buy.

Aye, it will be much louder with full decat.

If just the backbox, then the afterburner is good.

(* Don't always have to change the decat over for MOT. )

I have a full 3' HKS system on MY03 STi (decatted with headers), sounds awesome! Really loud rasp! Louder than the Afterburner I had on MY02 STi. Different sound though!

Cool

bish,i think you will find it difficult to do without getting it on a ramp!!the bolts will have siezed up at the manifold end and may some heat with a welding torch to get them of
take it to an exhaust centre, they'll charge about £15 and u won't get your hands dirty!!

got the car booked in tomorrow morning to get the centre pipe swapped over for the de-cat one, if it makes a decent amount of noise difference i'll leave the back box as it is.

The centre section was about 3 inches too short to fit in place of the original.
It was also curved slightly different at the side towards the front.

The guy I got it from had it on his classic impreza wagon, a few years newer than my sti(saloon).

Is there a difference in exhaust length or can it be due to my particular back box being situated further towards the back?
