As those that are going to Donnington know, there is some charity based stuff occurring there... which has reminded me of something that was posted on Scoobynet a while back and nothing seemed to happen..

The idea of a sponsered drive from a to b via x, y and z! but this was going to be up blackpool way.. I was think of organising one that would start in Guildford, via brighton, and end in Bournemouth...

The idea being we select 5 charities, and split the overall sponsership money equally between them...

I was thinking of getting large stickers for either the side rear windows or the rear window made up either with the event name or one/all the charity names, obviously this would have to be easilly removable (not too easy though, need it to stay on!)..

Just really wanted to know who would be available for such a thing, say, second weekend in February 2001??

Does this sound like a good idea to any of you??

We could get the local papers involved to aid publicity for the charities/event.

Obviously, everyone involved needs to be on best behaviour

Rgds, Alex

Sounds like fun to me, maybe could ask Subaru UK for a bit of cash as well, I'm sure they would have a decent publicity machine they could put behind it, if they felt charitable.
Also if the coppers where told, they tend to look favourably on these things as well, if you know what I mean, as long as people dont take the pi**.

Good idea, perhaps Stuart H can assist front that point of view if I produce a rough route plan well in advance... But seriously, we will need to behave, as the idea to is to get GOOD publicity for the charities and scoobynet (call me pot if you like, but this will (hopefully) be a high profile event)...

5 Charities or rather types I thought of:

Childrens
Cancer
AIDS research
Heart desease
3rd World

Any nominations, ie. specific charity orgs?

Cheers, Alex

I have to say that this is a fantastic idea....we could rake the cash in from sponsors with an event like this! I know I could probably raise a few hundred quid.

Ill get the muppet boys to have a look in too.

Cem,

Exactly, and hopefully raise awareness (via stickers) for said charities (still waiting for suggestions based on above types of charity ).

I'll be emailing sticky-pete about this, hopefully he can help on the sticker front.
Take it nobody minds removable window decals??

I would be interested in this as well
Guide Dogs for the Blind ( guide dog has given my dad a new lease of life and his independence back after losing his sight so this is a bit close to my heart!)

Nice shout Alex,

I'd be up for something like this, Great Ormond st. would be another worthy cause...I was there a few weeks ago visiting and it's not until you go to one of these places that you can really appreciate all that is being done!

Dr Evil,

I am a member of the Leeds R.N.L.I. Business Branch - and one of the events being planned for next year is a sponsored Lifeboat station trip...basically see how many stations you can visit in a day, weekend...whatever...bare in mind there are a lot of stations...near to some great roads! especially down south...possibly by taking part in that everyone could be involved all over the country...if not for the RNLI, then certainly for one of the charities already mentioned...

Top!

Right so, if we go for:

Great Ormand Street - kiddies charity (right?)

Guide Dogs for the Blind

McMillan Fund - Cancer Research

We need two more worthy causes, please advise... obviously if there is enough interest we may be able to split the proceeds further (ie more charities).

If anyone has contacts in these or other charities that we finally decide on, please advise me as it would be easier to arrange that way!

Cheers, Alex

Good idea, perhaps do that one as well as this one.. unless they overlap date wise?

Cheers, Alex

If you are thinking RUMs idea is a good one (and I do) then consider that their HQ is in Poole, they would probably have plenty of parking too and might make a good finish point, near Poole Quay too where plenty of beers can be had.
(Plus its 5 minutes walk from my house )

Charity-ball Run
Scoob-a-thon
ScoobyAid

Suggestions??

I would obviously appreciate if we run with the RNLI idea, that the funds raised for the RNLI go via the Leeds Business Branch - especially this year we have already managed to raise just over £70,000!!! We are the fastest growing branch in the country...not bad for a 1st years efforts.

The bulk of the southern cars could meet at Poole and then head out to see how many stations they could visit...the rest could be started strategically and travel to stations more locally...obviously in the Yorkshire/NE area with have plenty to go at!

See here for more info on the station sites...

Well, lets at the very least add the RNLI to the list of charities.. so we need one more charity (may be two to make it 6)..

Depends when you were planning to run it Rum*, there is no reason why we couldn't do both if they were in different months, likelyhood is that people will be able to make one or the other, or both, so a good potential for raising for different good causes..

Thoughts?

Cheers, Alex

PS. feel free to email me offline, if you wish to discuss any of the above, this is open to all that read this thread. cheers

Change of idea...Blow Dog and I have just been chatting about it...

Forget the RNLI..maybe go for a smaller charity, one that would/could really benefit from a better exposure/income...

Kids spring to mind...and one of the charities is the Make a Wish Foundation...anyway it could be them, another or a group...but thats not the point right now...

Back to the matter in hand...we thought that ...wait for it...how about seeing how many dealers you can get to in the day - certain dealers might be asked to provide facilities for maybe BBQ lunches etc...a great chance for them to maybe loads of different cars coming and going all day...

As the dealers are nationwide - and over 235 of them now, then all drivers could start from their respective areas and see how many Dealer Stamps they could collect..

Maybe an idea...no doubt you will all post comments

Cheers Rum (& Blow Dog)

Sounds good Rum & Blow Dog,

would make a good point to the day, and perhaps have a regional meet point for the start/end of the day too (a pub!)... this would mean smallish groups (5 cars or so, which would be better IMO) and more exposure..

Perhaps SIDC or Scoobynet can handle the treasury side of things??? I'll ask 'em.

We need a name, ScoobyAid is kinda relevant and relates to Scoobynet more, good idea?

Ronnie has volunteered to help me organise this already, but if you've got the time Rum, perhaps we can sort this out together.

I will be able to get a webpage setup advertising the event + the info packs/forms & stickers produced..

Perhaps mail-shot the dealerships too, I'll speak to my local one tomorrow AM and get their support. Once a name is decided, I'll get the domain/page sorted too.

Cheers, Alex

Alex,

I will be more than happy to help out.

I agree about the regional stuff - especially the 5 car thingy.

IM, Subaru, and the Dealers might be happy/prepared to assist - afterall its all advertising for them - and no doubt it all counts towards things like the J D Power stuff - certainly in the consumers perspective.

Anyway,

I shall wait for your mail DrEvil, and no doubt chat about it further - if not B4 Donno, then definately over a bacon buttie on the day...

All the best

Tom

Alex - I've mailed you about this.

Would definitely be up for this. I reckon ScoobyAid beats the others on the name front. Keeps the connection with the BBS (and what we actually drive) but is obviously a charity event too.

Nice one

How about calling it Scoobynet DriverAid and getting some other car clubs involved. Would also let Johnny 2 Jags see that drivers are prepared to do some good whilst they are being overcharged for fuel and destroying the environment.

Cheers
Andy
