Why o why o why o why?

Do people in Focuses, those little puegots and all the other "normal" cars that sit right on my ar*e really think that I want to waste my time (and petrol) racing all over the south east of England ?
When I do rise to the challenge they look absolutly pedestrian !
Why do they bother ?, we think that they think that we have an Escort engine.
I DONT WANT TO RACE.
Feel better now, gonna get a rear "sun strip" saying just that!
If they only spent more time and money on thier engine, tyres and suspension instead of coloured lights and 9" exhausts they might get a bit more out of thier cars ?
I must be gittin' old !

i know exactly what yer saying mole. sometimes you just want to get home without any bother or stupidity in rush hour traffic. when i had a scooby, i even thought about taking all the spoilers off and making it a dark green one. if i bought an evo7 for example, first thing id do is take that big wing off
heres a thought though. everytime ive driven a scooby, objects in the rear view mirror seemed VERY close(even when reverse parking), compared to when i look in the rear view mirror of a different make of car. is it coincidence, boll0x, or could it be an answer, or are we really all paranoid...the truth is out there...whhhooooo oooo oooo

Has it occured to you that some of these people might simply want to hear the sound of your scoob when you are giving it some? I used to see a guy in a maxed Fiesta every morning. He would do what ever it took to get beside me. If we got side by side at the lights I would give it some, thinking 'max power blah de blah' Eventually I met him in a garage. I was about to leave and he had just arrived. He jumped out of his car, ran across the forecourt, stuck his head in the (open) window and said 'I just love the sound of your car when you boot it. It makes me happy all day when i hear it'

One of the many benefits of owning a wagon.
People don't bother racing you so much.
(Another is that you don't worry so much about it getting nicked)
....and I can get the kids AND the labrador in the back!
No. I'm lying. I don't have either, but was able to get my christmas tree in though.

Er, I think it's the way that YOU drive that attracts them to your bumper. It's very rare for someone to try to race me as I generally drive sedately in traffic. It's only when I drive briskly that other 'lesser' cars want to have a go. I suppose they think that when you drive fast that you must be 'up for it' somehow.
Just MHO.

Interesting point. I notice that if I se another car driving briskly I do have to quell an impulse to follow suit. Similarly, if i drive like a t0sser I notice it attracts t0ssery driving by others.
I m sure Karl Jung had something to say about such behaviour.

Hehe, Funny thing is, these guys try it on with any car, not just scoobys. I have a mint 205 GTi which is 100% standard looking, and I get it. Yet I refuse to put my foot down around town, as I can't afford the insurance if I have a prang and my engine is usually cold.
I do play on open quiet roads, but I must I say its annoying when they are so unsafely close behind you.

Doh! they just nicked one of me valve caps, I can assure you that its not the way I drive that invites the stupid brigade Mr.Subzero.
I drive (mostly) like Ive got Ed Rozzer behind me, I got done years ago on a rather large bike and "copped" a disqual, so I live in fear of Mr.Volvo and Mr.Gatso taking thier narrow minded dogmatic attitude for a walk all over my licence!
As I said in my orig post, I drive fast when conditions allow, in fact I had to let an Alfa go this morning on a very fast, dark,(raining)twisty and to be quite honest, scary bit of B road...if I lose the ability to be scared, then me thinks it would be all over.
Lets not forget that "scared" is our in-built self preservation device, bit like fuel-cut on my ppp ecu !!!
Like what you said about exhaust noise, but over 4500rpm it wails like a banchee with electrodes clamped to its ar*e !!! so I dont see that they need to try to get closer.
Anyroadup, nuff of my old toffee...thanks for the response.

Definately the beemers... if I pass one on the way into work its virtually a certainty that they WILL pull out and try to race... thing is if they'd used their mirrors BEFORE I passed them they would have noticed the missing scoop and vents on the bonnet and figured out that there is no way a Sport is going to get into a race with a 328i... or even a 320i for that matter.
And yes I am generalising, i do know that beemer drivers come on here, and that thay are not all like that - I'm just saying the way it appears to me most of the time.

Why not give em a race then? If ur on a clear open road, open her up - thats why you have a quick car isnt it?
Me, I have a friendly play if ppl want to - although I won't make it obvious I want to race on a clear road by tailgating too close.
The other day on the way to work I spied a new WRX (me in 1.9 Gti, which is rather quick), and got onto an empty, 2 mile stretch of dual carriageway - no cameras, no traffic - so I blasted past him - he tottered along at 40mph - all the way! Fair enough, would've been fun to beat him though
