top speed on a ra
hey guys and girls been away from scoobys 4 a while but its impossable to stay away 4 to long but looking to buy another one soon i used to have a 93 wrx then a 99 type r v limited. i am thinking of buying an early sti ra probably a version 2 or 3 and makeing it in to a bit of a project (fast road and track)
i want a ra cause i want a car with diff control haveing owned a scooby with and without. with diff control is much more fun but am a bit concearned about it running out of gears when u get on a nice bit of straight road. my type r was a v limited so had a longer 5th and would go on to 155+ (only on a private road of cause) would like another type r but really dont want to spend that much to save some money to start the mods
so what is top speed have heard about 120 is that correct
havent been on the forum much in the 2 and a half years since ive been away things seem to have really moved on in the power department suppose it has a lot to do with the 2.5 lte block which everyone seems to be useing now

I have a WRX-RA V1 and it will only do around 120/125 flat out....but if your gonna nail it to the boards for any length of time you will hit trouble with overheating then the big bang.
The front end of the early classic's are really not good at directing air across the TMIC at high speed, if you are going to use it often to get upto it's top speed I suggest a bigger scoop......
Pop over to the RA forum and ask the question there. Type-RA.co.uk - Home of the Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA, Impreza WRX STi Type RA, Impreza Type RA V Limited, Scooby V. Ltd, visit the WRX forum & Subaru forum

Work out the top speed by:-
Speed per 1000RPM in top gear X revs at rev limiter/1000. This should give the theoritical top speed.
My Type R 19 x 8250/1000 i.e. 19 x 8.25 = 156.75.
In reality, I'd guess it to be 145 or so due to the car running out of power before it runs out of revs. Never tried it though.
Even if it was on 17mph/1000rpm in top gear and a 7000 limit, it would still give 119mph, so enough to loose your licience
However, as has been said, it's not a good idea as the intercooler isn't efficient at these speeds.
