Default Talex Speed Camera Detectors

I'm thinking of getting a speed camera detector as i've had a couple of close shaves lately, i was going to go ***** out and get an expensive one, but after reading a few reviews on the Talex Lite i thought that for £60 it sounds awesome, who's got one and are they really that good ? and is it worth shelling out the extra cash for the Talex elite ?

Got the Snooper S6 NEO.

It does the lot, it's 2 systems, 1 for Gatsos, Laser Guns Specs etc etc, plus GPS.

Best of all worlds, lately they have come down in price.

£90 1 off payment or £4.99 a month.

You can update/download as many times as you like.

Fantastic bit of kit.

Good luck.

Thing i don't get with these is that they use GPS to 'DETECT' speed camera's etc.

The fixed cameras i'm fine with but how can it detect mobile units in vans and also guys hiding in bushes?? The coppers change locations all the time! Or does it use some special way of 'knowing' they are there??? If it can't do this then i wouldn't waste my money on one.

2 ways this works on GPS.

They have a team of Investigators travelling the countryside looking for 1) Unmarked Vans.
2) Laser Traps. etc etc. THIS ALL GOES INTO THER DATA BASE

3) YOU THE MOTORIST. If you go past a Van or Whatever & your Detector doesn't go ogff, you press a button to mark the Site.

You then Upload/Download on to the Master Data Base.

As a stranger to a part of the Country V'S being a local (who would know where they all are) that's where they get you.

Waste of monry???

That's up to you.

I have mine set to trigger an alarm if I am going too fast for the speed limit.

How responsible is that?/

Also mobile speed cameras are in specfic locations of which the public have to be notifyed they carn't just setup where ever they like so all the know locations of mobile speed cameras are in theory known. and for radars you could all buy one of these

I've got the Talex Lite and I'd say for the money it's a great piece of kit.

It's simple to install with a magnetic dashboard mount, I've put mine to the right of the steering wheel with the cable routed under the driver side mat.

It displays your speed while you're in motion, when you get within 500 yards of a fixed camera it tells you, then when you get down to 200 yards it tells you to slow down if you're still speeding. It also tells you the speed limit of the road you are on when there's an alert. For mobile camera sites it just says "Possible mobile camera site ahead", you can also enter your own sites if you see the Police somewhere.

I got mine brand new on ebay for £60 and 3 years membership for updates is only £49. If you're not bothered about actual signal detection, then you can't go far wrong with this unit, plus there's no false alarms.

I believe detectors will soon be illegal as well, which is another reason not to spend a fortune on one and get a GPS one instead, which will still be legal.

Arrrrrr i see..

Well i suppose if they know most of the locations they aren't so bad but there's always that one chance it could fail then you will get caught anyway! lol

IF you go past a site and it dosn't go off then press the button! What if you doing 40 in a 30 at that time and get caught? It would be worth the money if it worked 100% of the time.

I really don't see how you can get done for speeding with one in the car. Having said that I probably will now!

It makes it virtually impossible to get done by a fixed gatso, unless you ignore the voice saying constantly "reduce your speed" for 200 yards. It has every location of mobile camera sites, so unless they suddenly start using a new one and you haven't downloaded an update, you could be unlucky.

As said, for £60 + £49 for 3 years, you can't go far wrong.

TBH, I've not even bothered with the subscription yet and I've had it 18 months, I've never noticed a Gatso that's not on there.

There are detectors out there with loads of features, but how many do you need? This one tells you where all the cameras are, and that's all I need!

OK, just had a look at this Talex System.

It's GPS ONLY.

What that means in simple terms is, it's only as good as it's data base and, how often it is updated.

It does NOT do Live Gatsos, SPECS, LASERS..

AS I said the Snooper is the Cainine's Gentelia and, obviously costs a lot more.

Whatever you go for, best of luck.

Not sure what you mean "it does not do Live Gatsos"?

If you mean it doesn't actually detect a signal, then that's correct, however these type will be illegal soon anyway.

What it does is work from a GPS database and let's face it gatsos are pretty static, as I said I've not updated the database on mine in 18 months and no new cameras have appeared round here in that time.

If you downloaded the database every week, you'd be pretty unlucky to get done by a new camera.

I've also got the Talex Lite - It is an excellent piece of kit. I haven't noticed any locations it hasn't got in.

They have now changed their subscription and you can get lifetime updates now.

I changed from a Road Angel and IMHO it's much better whilst being far smaller and discreet.

IIRC the laser detectors are now reasonably useless given time to read your speed versus time for the detector to tell you that you're being targetted plus your response time.

YEAH they have to show to the public think its 24 or 48 hrs befoe they set up a mobile sight so it means you just plug in the snooper or whatever to your computer and do a refresh download. just means you should do it every couple days or if you know your going out for a blast on sunday do it the night before. or just ask a traffic cop they have a duty to provide you with correct info regaurding law and cant lie.
