Hi all - Newbie, just bought 1st Scooby
Hi all,
Thought I would join the forum. I purchased a '97 Subaru today and it's great. I can see I'm going to have a bit of fun with it. Could someone advise me on Trackers please. I had a quick look around this place and am still none the wiser. I have been told by my insurance company that I will need a tracker and also need to prove it to them so that they can insure me for theft too rather than just accidents etc (if that makes sense?). I want to get one asap and get it installed and sent to the insurance company for peace of mind.
Any help, links, recommendations etc would be great.
Cheers

welcome mate, lots of diverse opinions on here re trackers. i use tracker themselves, also heard others talk about rac trackstar. some ins companies do not require them, some do.
try rac website and tracker, think they are in slough.

Best advice I could give is to find an insurer whom doesn't insist on a Tracker. They are rubbish and can be defeated by anyone with an ounce of knowledge. ******* know where they are and just remove them. The newer ones are GSM based and can be blocked by a device available on eBay for under £100. Also, ask yourself whether you'd want it back after it's been thrashed and trashed ? The most common way of stealing cars these days is to acquire the keys, and that usually means the tracker is unaware it isn't you driving it until you report it. My recommendation....
1. Any Cat1 alarm/immobilisor
2. Disklok
3. Dipol/Barrier Deadlock
4. Clifford Blackjax

Cheers mate, I'll have a butchers tomorrow.
By the way (sorry I didn't say)...I got a mint condition silver import WRX STI Turbo..with...ahem...5 doors (there's a reason for that too), which is just short of 300BHP. Not that it matters as I drive like an old lady!
