Good quality Cambelt
Well in a few thousand miles im going to change my cambelt, well when it hits 40k. My car is a MY99 STI V5. Now im taking it to a garage to get the job done. All I need to know is the type of cambelt I need. For instance if they put a cambelt for a uk 2000 model would it be ok on my car.
If not where would there be a good place to buy a good set of cambelts for my import STI.
Anyother advice would be gratefull.
Cheers

Up until 99my Subaru fitted a Cam Belt (to both Uk & Jdm cars) with the part No: 13028AA072 (£80.26) which had a life of 45,000 miles.
In 1999 they started to fit Belt No: 13028AA240 (£87.17) and a year later extended the service life to 50,000 miles.
Both these belts are identical in size, shape & have the same tooth count, so we fit the later belt to all cars.
If you want an aftermarket belt, then go for a "Gates" belt, as they are the manufacturer of the origonal Subaru item & will come with the timing marks stamped on the belt.

Cam belts have time limit as well as a mileage limit. I would change a cambelt after 5 years even if the car had only done 20K. Your cambelt may have been on the car for nearly 10 years and IMHO it is well overdue so don't delay and wait for the mileage to tick around - you're already in the danger zone.
