Very similar mate..........

Was waiting to get on to a roundabout and noticed a white Vectra exiting just as I was about to join. Would not have given him too much attention had he have not braked heavily and swerved to rejoin.

Sat two cars behind me and seeing the roof ariels etc I knew it was an unmarked police car. Joined the dual carriageway and he sat off me for a while then when he realised I wasn't going to go above 65mph he sat practically alongside me before smiling and speeding off.

Knowing it was local unmarked car certainly helped (not that I go gunning down the bypass anyway) but I think this technique to try and catch me was a bit out of order.

without a doubt Dan.

Same Vectra did a similar thing with a Skoda Octavia. The piece in our local paper said the car was caught doing 101 mph. The driver insisted the car came behind him whilst he was overtaking and it was so close he could not see the headlights. Now fair enough he should have pulled in once he cleared the car he was overtaking but the driver maintained he contined to speed up only because the car behind him maintained such a close distance.

Lets be honest he was trying to outrun the car that was following him and perhaps he thought it was a mini race when the roads were quiet but its no coincidence he was only pulled @ 101 mph when the police could have identified themselves @ 80 mph.

Most the time if i can't see who's up my chuffer, i let them past. (Then see how i wanna play it )

Totally out of order what they tried to do though.

Really?! Why's that?

Surely you'd say they whazzed up and pulled in behind you. Were an unsafe distance from my boot, with little or no breaking distance, then flashed their headlights. I accelerated off as i feared they were car jackers, then i got arrested.

I was driving sensibly until the officers goaded me into going faster.

You'd NEVER prove entrapment in court, mate, you'd be screwed.

Take some advice from one who KNOWS fro experience:

1. Never try to run from a car up your rear unless you are certain who it is, then go STRAIGHT to the main cop shop and complain. Shows you were scared for your life and MIGHT cut some ice in court

2. Trust ALL coppers about as far as you could chuck a carload. Note, I'm NOT saying ACAB, but if you trust 'em, on your head be it

There's no such thing as entrapment in English law. You've all been watching too much American television.

Tailgating is a crime and thats what they did, pitty you did not have some one else in the car that could have taken a picture off how close they were and taken it to the cop shop. I had this, pulled over then let them pass gave them the bird did not pull me and if they had i would of asked why so F****** close.

And the coppers that did this are really going to stand up and say that is exactly what happened yes?? Dont think so somehow.

Surely they will say you are talking rubbish and its your word against theirs. I wonder who will get the benefit if the doubt in court!

This happened to me so I wrote to the Police Chief for the area. I didn't get a response (surprise).

It's difficult to say whether it's entrapment per se (although I would sway that way) as their response to you would be that most reasonable people would move out of the way if someone came screaming up their chuff and not put their foot down.

In summary, it's low and I wish the Police showed more responsiblity in not doing it, afterall surely they would have a degree if of culpability if you had engaged and subsequently injured or killed a 3rd party in a crash?

Guess so. Never thought of that. There's me in my little bubble thinking everyone is honest.

I get round this by normally applying the brakes, sharpish. That sends them back. Or a little press on the loud pedal and let off, the flames normally push them back.

If they were close i`d be tempted to hit the brakes quite hard. And when they stop you to ask why, you say well if you weren`t so close you`d of seen the hare run out in front of me.

nice one for the replys, its sad that they try and do this, but like you say you would have to prove what they are doing i'm sure even if you had filmed them they would come up with a ****e excuse to get away with it like they always do
