Default tuners...remap questions!

I know this may be very strange but...

Could i have my car mapped to lower the bhp, its currently somewhere in the region of 305bhp, its a my03 sti ppp. so its there or thereabouts.

However, I would like to use the car for day to day travel to and from work, so i was wanting to either have it mapped so it didnt spool up untill 3500rpm plus, or limit the boost so that its around 180bhp at peak.

With the view to using less fuel, ultimate reliability and it bein more economical.

thanks

Yes mate you can,

your car can have twin boost settings so you can keep the 305hp but also have it mapped to actuator pressure (0.5bar) only which is what I have on my MY02STi.

Its also very useful when it goes for MOT and the tester needs to check the brakes out on the road

I recently had my 02 sti remapped which put the power up from 285 to 325.A side effect of this was that it is actually better on fuel economy. When I use it for commuting to work (150mls round trip) it works out about a tenner a day cheaper !

sounds perfect.

what kind of power does half a bar give me roughly? thats about 7psi aint it?

Why get a diesel run around, I have a x type diesel for that, just wanted to be able to take it to work in the summer, and possibly go for a long trip round europe, knowing that its not going to break down or use ten grands worth of juice.

I was hoping that Jolly or Bob would have said they can do it and what results im likely to get.

I'm not sure what horse power it will be producing at 0.5bar (7.25psi ) but if its not enough, you can taylor the boost settings to your requirements as long as its mapped with ECUTEK, not sure about aother mapping software.

I'm sure Bob or Simon will be able to give you and close idea of what to expect and it does take long to alter boost settings so you could ask them to play around and see what is acceptable.

An 03STI running 305bhp shouldnt be unreliable or prone to breaking down mate.

Each time i get remapped, i always seem to get better fuel economy. I've gone from 220m per 50L to about 270m.

You can have a low boost map done, which you can toggle.

That's the solution i think you're after.

This isn't such a bad idea. Was thinking that it's a shame that car manufacturers of high performance cars don't start doing this. A bit like the `M` button on the M5/M6.

I'd love to buy say a Impreza STI/Focus RS etc that has 300BHP+ but have an ecconomy button that flips the Map to say 150BHP and 35mpg.
Want to overtake or have some fun? Hit the button back to full power and away you go.

Could be the answer to everyone going out and buying Diesels.

Its very hard to drive off boost with a vf35, they seem to go from nothing to all in the space of 500rpm, which just happens to be 2600-3100, right where you want to be when your on a steady drive.

Low boost high boost is great, I dont drive like a dick head all the time so it works well for me. People seem to forget that these cars are a practical fast saloon cars and not out and out racers, just because you have the turbo version, doesn't mean you go everywhere with your foot on the floor. Could be an aga related thing, I'm not sure

As for the 2nd map being done for 95ron, you cant do that with the Denso Subaru ECU, its only boost swtchable not ignition also. You could set target boosts lower which might prevent det but I wasn't recommend to run on 95ron on my previous low boost setting when the high boost setting was for V-Power.

Why do so many people point pointless comments...

If i couldnt afford to run it i wouldnt have it! I asked if a mapper could do something specific and they can, thanks to all the people that have helped me, esp nick, i appreciate your help fella.

A tuner has pm'd me, and i shall be using them for the re-map.

I dont know about anyone else, but i certainly begrudge paying mr brown a huge ammount in tax each time i fill up. If i could have the best of both worlds i would be happier. as nick says driving off boost is near impossible.

I believe starlet turbo's have a high and low boost setting.

Thanks for the help guys.

drive it off boost, never go over 2500rpm and you'll be sorted.

a eboost or something like will be bale to give you a few different settings, shgould crank it up higher than the 305, but then be bale to set a cruise map on it as well, best of both

If you have an Apexi AVC-R there are 2 or 3 settings for boost I believe.

You can't now anyway with that power Nick - unless you want to edge up backwards in a hedge very quickly!
