You can take pslewis advice on this if you like ......... i would contact a reputable mapper to put you straight before you either invest in the fmic,or even atempt to run it without it being mapped, the extra inlet pipe length will cause problems, more notably surge, not only that but being a my00 which have notoriously fragile mafs, running a fmic negates the standard airbox, and an induction kit is needed,be very carefull selecting which one and how its fitted...... pretty sure pete will back up his claims though and if it all goes wrong be prepared to forward the cash to cover any rebuild needed........

Unless you are after above 350 bhp, which the gearbox wont cope with anyway,a tmic and standard airbox will be fine for your needs, and less troublesome.

Phil,

Then I suggest you ask the person who told you this if they'd be prepared to cover the cost of a rebuild, as you stand a fairly good chance of engine failure if you run an FMIC wihout a remap. At the very best, the car won't run optimally!

Do you actually need a FMIC. Unless going for levels where the TMIC is no longer satisfactory (for the MY00 that's about 330ish) then the answer is no.

If you do get one, I'd suggest going for the hybrid, which is available from a GB for £299 at the mo. Probably a days work to fit, so budget for labour appropriately. You'll also need an induction kit; you can't keep the std airbox - that's about £100. Then a remap, the cost of which depends on the mapper etc..

Then you dont need an FMIC.

BUT your car would certainly benefit from being remapped (if it hasn't been already) as you'll be getting little from the above mods as it stands.

This can be quite an emotive subject, with lots of differing opinion's.

My car has ran perfectly well with an FMIC fitted since Nov 06 IIRC, without being mapped.

That's not to say that what has worked for me will work with any car though. Some cars just don't like them, FMIC's, not remaps.

Me, I think I've been lucky, others won't be.

You can sleep with lots of people not using a condom and you may never catch an STD. Doesn't mean it's a good idea!

Can you afford the bill if it all goes **** up is the question! If not I would suggest that you get a remap. No-one who tells you not to will chip in for a rebuild i'm guessing!

Nice anecdote.

If mine lets go, it lets go. Probably cant afford the bill, but hey-ho.

At the end of the day, the OP will most likely just think one of 2 things.

1. **** it, I'm going to fit one anyway.

OR

2. I'm not going to bother until I can afford to get it mapped with any other extras added afterwards.

I chose option 1. I have option 2 sort of in the pipeline.

If I had the power of foresight, instead of hindsight, I would have done many things differently.

2 pots still Howay, even I know theyre ****e, but they're still there.

Phil,

I wouldn't bother changing the intercooler on a MY99/00 until you upgrade the turbo.
