Default New Battery question

My battery's on it's way out
...and will be buying new one tommorow.

My question is... shall I save some money and get one from Halfords...
or shall I buy an original from Subaru?

Anyone use non-Subaru battery? reliable?

Just bought one from Halfords for my 03 WRX, HCB005. I believe the spec is better than original, and almost certainly cheaper at £82.

Yes, HCB005 from Halfords, far better than poor OE battery (even when it was new). You'll be amazed how much faster it turns the engine over.

Lightbulb

Odyssey PC680.

Fitted one last month and at >7kgs lighter and half the size of the OEM battery spins the starter over with a gusto the original battery never had..!

Can be had for ~£80 delivered iirc, see GB section for details of supplier..

BTW our car is a daily driver with lots of <10 mile around town stuff and these batteries are apparently up to this kind of abuse no problem..!

Certainly seems the case so far with ours..

Loosing >7kgs off the front end will also help handling quite a bit..!

Thanks. Looks like its the thumbs up for Halfords battery then.
Is HCB005 the model number for the battery?

Also, roughly how much would an original cost from Subaru?

HCB005 is the code for the Halfords Calcium battery. I got one myself 3 weeks ago.
IIRC Subaru quoted me around £95 plus 1 hour's time to fit.

Halfords will fit it for a fiver, which I thought was worth it as the clamp is an awkward swine to get back on!

I don't know about anyone else.. but if I PAID to have someone fit a battery my mates would take the **** and not let me to forget about it for years.. probably decades.... we'd be sitting in the pub when we're 60 and say "ha! you remember that time Ian paid someone to fit a car battery!!"

Lol, yep them clamps are so difficult to get off/on, it's because of a couple of things called a nut and spanner..

I'm quite capable of fitting a battery .
My car was in for a service and the dealer recommended it needed a battery and gave me a price. I was just making the point that the dealer prices are a rip off.

When I bought my battery from Halfords they offered to fit it for a fiver, so I let them.

I got one 18 months ago (£65) so another vote for Haulfrauds.
