Newbie question about WRX.
Hi guys,
I've been haunting these forums for quite some time now. Waiting for the time that I might actually get round to buying a WRX. The time could well be just up on me, having all but sold my house(Yay after 13 months). I'm looking at getting a standard WRX.
I've been hunting the net looking for a decent price for the insurance and managed to get it down to around £525 fully comp. or just over £600 with protected no claims, guess that's the advantage of being and 38 year old Dad of 3 . While inputting the information I notice there where a few options for the WRX, Especially on 2005 models. there is the WRX(225) and the WRX(261) is the 261 just a WRX with the PPP installed or is there a specific model in 2005 I should look out for?
I've seen a 2005 55reg with 23,000miles with PPP for £10,995 that I'm interested in, and I just want to make sure this isn't in addition to any standard premium.
Thanx in advance for any forthcoming information.

Keith Michaels are the best, ask for Gary Moulson – amazing prices compared to the big “high street” insurers.
225 is standard for these models and 261bhp is with PPP, though be careful since most insurers class this as a performance upgrade.
I drive a 2002 with PPP. I was with Priviledge before and they quoted me £600 standard and £850 with PPP fitted . I now pay £650 (inc PPP) from Keith Michaels with a modified exhaust, induction kit and a remap

Thanx guys.
well it looks like the WRX I've been looking at must of had PPP from new as when you put the reg no. into the quote engine it comes up as a 261. Certainly when it comes to buying a scooby I'll give both Keith Michaels and A-plan a ring. Although I'm currently with esure at the moment which are one of the cheapest I've found anyway.
261 BHP fastest car I've had to date was a Mondeo ST24 @ 170BHP. Should be a nice jump
Currently driving my wifes last car a 1.6 escort LOL @ a full 90 BHP after selling my ST24 although our main car is a 2.0 C-MAX

I'm 38, 11 year no claims, 1 SP30 about 4 years ago, wifes 39, full no claims, 1 fault just under 5 years ago(hit a barrier in Sainsburys). I'm a self employed Engineer(machine shop) doing little mileage (about 8,000, with 2,000 being business)

I'm 30 with a 2005 WRX, Sti spoiler, blitz nur spec and 18's and have a total right off to my name, (albeit protected no claims not affected) and I got my insurance trough the comparison sites for £440 protected fully comp without tracker requirements (admiral being the chosen company), was pretty pleased with that really.

I think you'll find in part of 2005 the PPP was fitted for free from new , a few insurers have this listed on their systems but only for the 05 model , I guess this is the one you are finding coming up as 261 . That's part of the reason I went for an 05 STI as I can insure it without having to list the ppp as an aditional mod

The 2005 car with PPP is listed on most insurers books as the WRX 261, and therefore not a modified car. Previous years WRX wiith PPP were traeted by many companies as a modification and you paid skightly more. I've just renewed mine for £369 with protected no claims. Life begins at 40....or reasonable insurance does...

£1300 was A-plan m8. One of the cheapest so far is E-sure which really surprised me as there a pain to get insurance with at times.

Well it's getting closer, I've got my eye's one a 2005/55 with PPP Phoned my current insurance up (Esure) and they will do it for just over £300 for the rest of this years premium(Till January 2009), and that's confirming that the car is classed as standard with PPP. Had the car HPIed and it's come back clean apart from a little finance which would have to be cleared and a plate change from a private plate.
Been to look at one at Fords of Winsford purely to have a good look round one for the first time, Not really had chance to have a good look at one for fear of getting jumped by the owner . and they're not what you would call ten a penny around hear, hence why I'm considering going 200 miles to buy one.
The one I looked at was a 55 with 16,000 miles.
But there where a few things I didn't like about it.
Nearly every panel had a mark of some sort,
It wasn't a PPP version,
It didn't have a tow bar ( I know most people wouldn't want one, but I would only have to pay out for one anyway),
The previous owner had a dog in the back,
It was £500 more than the one in Scotland,
It was boyracer blue, I mean rally blue (no offense meant to anyone with the Blue WRX )
But in theory the car looks perfect for what I want it for
