my laptop stolen from my car outside ScoobyMania
yes, I know I am stupid for leaving the car unlocked but there we are....
..... at the end of doing the work up there we moved the car outside and whilst Mike, Jase and I were inside talking the normal bollocks, some theiving scum made off with my mapping laptop that was on the passenger seat.
In itself the laptop is worthless being a steam driven old thing, but it had all my ecu maps, the history of the maps, road dyno runs and lots of other useful information (only to me though) that is impossible to replace.
The c**ts :x
Please can whoever it is return it to ScoobyMania, as it is impossible for me to get the mapping right without it for the first Time Attack round next weekend. You will be ruining my event and I am not happy about it after the huge amount of preparation and planning let alone cost !!!
There will be no recriminations - just return it !! ...
It is an old Compaq Armada with virtually nothing on it apart from DeltaDash and EcuFlash/Enginuity which is useless to anyone else and my maps and is of no resale value.
It has a desktop wallpaper of my car (which is fairly well known now)
If anyone sees this, please let me know.

sorry to hear that mate. Have you posted on sox as well ?
I am guessing you think it was just an opportunist thief and not someone with intent who knew you and your car ?
Lets hope you get it back. Did you keep a backup of the maps and all on cd or somewhere else just in case.

Nightmare I know how you must be feeling. I have had a laptop die on me and only lost 1 months work and was still gutted. I now backup weekly.
Hope you find it mate.
With your type of software can't you just suck out the existing map anyway and edit it ? Unlike the Ecutek where you can write only.

Yeah, that is true Andy, but I lose the history of what has been changed along the road along with my notes as to why I changed it.
Going to figure out how to connect my macbook up to it using Parallels/Boot Camp so that I can at least read my ecu and write any amendments. I wont be able to log with delta dash as the dongle was on the old laptop or log wideband until I can get a serial-> usb replicator for the mac.
Why they didnt take the AVCR, PDA/GPS, Phormula KS3 though ... far more valuable. They/he/she are/is stupid as well as a freeloader.

I use macs as well and can try and source a serial adaptor if you want. Just PM me or tell me what you want and I shall see what I can do.

they have no idea what stuff is worth , they just see electrical goods and see pound signs . someone broke into my missus car and nicked a set of cheap hair straitners a while back worth about 20 quid. cost 100 quid to sort the damage out . not the same as ur loss but they re just thieving scumcnuts.

Cheers chaps.
All mellowed now ... hic
for the record I am not a mapping company, but it has made me think about how many mappers have backup laptops. Do you have one Andy?
With all the stuff going missing from TA competitors; cars, trailers, phones, cameras, spares - it is a test.

Yeah I agree with you here. One asks a simple Qn because he assumes the OP remaps cars, so one would not want to waste his time and money on a worthless remap. Whats he get in return? A load of cobble from a bunch of ********!

I have 2 backup laptops as it happens ! One laptop I use mainly for Ecutek work, that one never gets near the internet. Just takes a twitch when mapping 99/00 ECU's = dead board.
The other 2 are used on everything else but I keep all my maps, logs and roaddyno info on a pen drive which I back up weekly.

Dont forget the latest version of 10.5.2 incorporates a missed schedule scheme. It should wait for you to plug the laptop back in and then start the TM backup automatically.
Like the idea of Andy's to have them on a USB stick. 4GB stick in your pocket with a backup of all the maps etc seems a pretty wise idea.
