I have an 53 Sti PPP (fully rally slag look) - One of the guys in work suggested that i should have a race (jokingly of course) with a couple of the lads who have so called better cars to prove that mine isnt just for show !!....
I'd be up against a (53 reg) BMW M3 & an (07 reg) Vauxhall Monaro ??? ..
Would i have any chance atall or would i get **** on ?????

In the twisties you would leave them behind quite easily, especially the Monaro.
In a straight drag it would be quite close between you and the M3, you would leave the Monaro for a short period but it would reel you in after hitting 100mph, I'm guessing the Monaro in question is the VXR with the 6.0L LS2 engine in it, 405bhp?

You will get stuffed.
It could be quite embarrassing .... when I was a youngster I had a Cortina GT and thought it would take on my mates Vauxhall Victor and another mates Dolomite Sprint. We raced on an airfield (I assume you will do the same and not attempt it on the roads?) ........ I pulled a HT Lead off the other 2 cars as they showed off their engines - I suggest you do the same type of thing

If it's theoretical, you'll whoop both of them by a huge distance.
If they ask you to back it up in practice, say that your intercooler/gearbox/injector/clutch is playing up (delete as applicable). Or suggest that you do it when it's wet/snowing/muddy.

This would be a very good run. Straight line the M3 wins but not by much so I have been told. Monaro will end up in your rear view mirror. They are crap apparently. Are they rear wheel drive?
Give it a go and then let us know the outcome, would love to know what happens. You can view some runs on youtube with M3 vs STi. There's one where the STi is up against an Evo and R32 and apparently STi does really well against Evo. Now Evo would have the M3 me thinks.

Why do people all ways say in the twistys you would beat this or that car?
Im sorry but as good as a subaru is it comes down to the driver at the end of the day, Not saying your not mate but you could be one of the people who will put there foot through the floor on a motorway but wet your pants down a country lane?
Owning a Subaru does not make its driver a Rally driver.
It's the same with the Bike vs Car thread that comes up every 2 or 3 weeks, everyone saying the bike would win but the car in the twistys!
Try it id say, there are some bikers out there that would make you cry!
Back to the thread (rant over) they would most prob both beat you, IMOA.

Sorry slightly OT but I remember passing a WRX on my R6 safely and unagresively giving it plenty of room. Next minute he's screamed passed me on a bend with a face of pure determination, not even a smile. It was a red pre-facelift WRX and in the orpington area if your'e on here

My 53 plate TSL 333 was evenly matched with an E46 M3. Slightly quicker in the early gears but when I was behind it could not gain so was (at the time) pretty much identical torque wise.
I'd go as far as saying if my car was a standard ppp then I'd have expected the M3 to edge away very slightly. No such problems now
