Default Thinking of buying a 2008 WRX hatchback are they any good

Would like to swap my 05 WRX for the new STI but can't afford one.

So was thinking about a EU WRX for 17K. Just wondering if anyone actually has a new WRX would appreciate thier views as I know the press aren't particularly positive. I know its not the best looking car around but Imprezzas have never been good looking cars and surely for 17K there aren't better 4 door performance cars?

not got a new wrx but my opinion is dont do it.

if your budget is 17k then rather than buy a new wrx i would get one of the last hawkeye sti's.

I was impressed with my WRX Test Drive but was advised to await the arrival of the STi ....... looking at how they have cut corners on the STi (no Fogs, no Smoked Glass, etc. - which the WRX has) then I'm pretty sure that the new WRX offers fantastic value for money.

My guess is that they will be £15k come the summer.

Well if I had a completely free choice I'm sure the Civic would have been on my list but the wife wants a 4 door and shes not keen on German cars so it limits the choice somewhat plus I think 4 wheel driveis a potential bonus

Which is good for Subaru's target audience!

The old STi - lets be honest - wasn't a car to live with, it would knock your fillings out ............... so, I reckon, it's good to be soft!!

Then you need to go back to your dentist as mine is my daily (20-30k per year) driver. Fits the wife, fits the dog (black lab in soft dog crate) and can fit lots in the boot. I think you need to get a big rubber ring then you should be fine with it

You won't get many positive reviews on here for the new WRX, mainly from people who have only seen it in magazines or listen to VBH handbraking it around a track.

Truth is the car is a lot nicer in the flesh (especially in white), It has loads more interior space with the practicality of a hatchback.

Driving wise, yes it is a bit softer, the steering is vague, the rear lights look $hite and the sound is somewhat muted but it is still a quick car for the money.

I've no doubt it won't be long until Prodrive upgrades are available which will sort these problems out.

Keep an eye out on EVO magazines new long termer starting in the April issue which is reportedly getting better as the miles are put on.

Would I buy one? No, I'll be keeping my Sti PPP a while longer, It's what an Impreza is all about.

The above is just not 100% true I'm afraid. Yes there is more flexibility with it being a hatchback but in fact there is less room up front than the saloon newage. This is not from guesswork I've been in one and found even with lots of adjustment it was more cramped than my hawk-sti. With the STI the seats may differ though so I don't know about that one!
