I had a similarly jobsworthy MOT fail on my Westfield once. The tester complained that the switch on the dash for the fog lamp lit up with the rest of the dash illuminations when the headlights were switched on, but didn't go out when the fog lamp itself was turned off.
...as if anyone would drive a car like that, at night, in such thick fog that you can't even see far enough ahead to tell what position the switch is in!!

Name & shame - so others can avoid the place
He's failing the car for having a legally correctly placed tax disc. I'd go as far as reporting him / the MoT stn to the Dept of Transport (or whatever it's called at the moment). Either that or the papers - can just see the headline "MoT failure for displaying tax disc"

last time i had a sunvisor, and before entering the garage, the tester came out and told me to put my wiper on .. it went over the strip, and he told me to take it out before coming in, or he cant gimme MOT !!!
tool it carefully out , put it on my back seat. and when i went home, i put it back on with some soap water lollll...
btw, the garage i go to, offers free 2nd retest...

Do vosa give credits for failing cars or something, this guy sounds like a ****, and there is a mot place near me that puts "corroded brake lines" on every fail or advisory notice, well they have on mine, my birds car, my mates ctr, 3 scoobies, my mates o5 evo, and numerous other cars!
Scooby clinic said that there wasnt a problem with my car, and honda said my mates ctr was fine, and the evo was too new for that kind of work, so why are they putting it on there? Is it to score points with vosa, or to scare people into having work done?

name and shame to stop other people using the services of this fool.
come to think of it my cars tax disc is kept visible by the sweep of the wipers, yet it still passed last month no problem.

that is shocking i am a mot tester have been for 5 years and i would not of even given an advisory for that !!
it clearly states a sticker or other obstruction - this excludes tax disk, mot reminder or any other goverment sticker as long as it as far to the nearside as possible
as far as the air freshners on the mirror goes i just take them down and advise i have done so
i would get vosa involved defo

ive worked in a main dealership over 9 yrs, been a tester for 6 of them, nor me or any of the other testers wouldnt even give it a 2nd look.
the tester in question needs a visit from VOSA.
