Default newbie - what can i get?

hi guys, at the moment i own a seat ibiza cupra which i love! 225bhp in a light car is fun but its FWD and i think its time for a change! once i have sold my car i will have about 7-7.5k to play with. would really like a bugeyed STI but am i being a bit too optimistic? what do you guys think i could get realistically?

cheers, tom

either a new age wrx, or a classic sti, depends what floats your boat.

may pick up a higher milage bugeye sti though

the classic is more hardcore, fater, but not as comfortable, the bugeye sti wil be slow, not handel as well, but be a more comfortable ride.

best bet test drive bugeye sti, wrx and then classic sti, see what you like

Ok, sanity check . Do not buy the cheapest bugeye you can find just because it just creeps into your budget. You're asking for a world of trouble. You've got that annoying size of budget where you can peep over the fence at some quite exotic stuff, but can't quite afford a good example. You also have to remember that although the car might cost £8k you will be paying the running costs of a £25k car. I reckon you could add 50% to the running costs of your Ibiza without any trouble at all. Think, think and think again before you get suckered in by the "Power, traction and you-only-live-once" brigade - they can be awfully persuasive!

That last bit is something you should think about. It depends what your after really...a subaru is quick from A to B and has a lot of grip, but if its fun your after I would go for something else. I'm not sure if I can justify having the scoob when it comes to running costs etc considering the enjoyment I get out of it. I mean, how much fun can you have these days on the roads at high speed? You could buy the likes of a really tidy e36 M3 for your money and have loads of fun in an abandoned industrial estate at night for example. Scoobs arent meant for drifting etc, they are meant to grip and be quick...which is great when you're being timed through a stage, but its not the most fun you can be having with a road car.

Just my opinion and something to think about.

Alan

yes , as above ^^^^. running costs are massive compared to other cars.

so id say spend £5 - 6k on the car and save the rest for mods, services etc.

or buy my wrx bugeye and spend the rest on mods. You would get it faster than an sti with a stage 1 engine upgrade. Plus only 46,000 and full service...

Go on..
