Default Subaru or Evo help me decide

Hi guys I am new to this place so have a bit of paitence.
I have about 15k to spend on either a Subaru or Mitsubishi and am trying to weigh up the pro's and cons of both.
I love the noise of the Subaru and also the service intervals but prefer the looks of the Evo and the rarity of them
What could I expect for my money?

My advice would be to drive both and make your own mind up dont rely on other peoples opinions

Evo's are rarer than subarus because they are so much more expensive to run

Drive them ! Cars are for driving, not looking at or listening to. I prefer Subaru as YOU drive it, but concede that Evo's are spectacularly fast due to the drivers aids helping. When I drive an Evo I can feel the driver aids doing their stuff and lose track of the feel of what the car is doing in relation to the road. With regards to your money, you are in a powerful bargaining position as Scoobs and Evo's aren't selling for love nor money, so aim for a car quite a bit above your price range and hammer them hard. If their car has been for sale for a long time they may be getting desperate. It's worth looking in the For Sale forums on here for some enthusiast owned cars which will have been cared for above and beyond the norm. You can also view the sellers previous posts to get some history of the car and how it may have been treated. Avoid low post count sellers who are either traders chancing a sly ad, or people hiding the cars history under a new username.

For my money I'd be looking at a hawkeye (06-07) JDM STi, or pushing hard for a Spec C.

You wont get a 2007 STi in any guise for 15k nearer 19-20k and a hawk spec c is onwards of 23k.For that money id be looking at a 2005-2006 STi with medium miles 20k ish alternatavely you could look at an Evo 8 FQ 300 for that money

TBH the Scoob does have better Service schedules plus the better sound of the two. I have never owned an EVO, but a mate of Mine as owned a EVO 8
and a 03 STI and I swear he as never been so broke as when he owned the EVO, the service schedules are silly and the parts on the higher grade ones ie FQ330 are silly money. He'd never buy an EVO again.
Hope this helps.

HERE's a hawkeye Spec C on 12k for £19k. Been for sale for a month so ripe for some bullying

HERE's an 07 UK STI Spec D (D=discrete, no performance benefit) for £16k.

I may have been a little presumptuous saying you might find a hawk 'C' at that price, but they're IRO £20k, so with some extra from your side and some bullying of a desperate seller you might just get there

If you have 15k to spend then that in reality says to me you have 13 - 14k to spend on a good scooby. You should always keep some £ in the bank for worst case scenarios/ modifications and with insurance, tracker registration etc that would take you to your 15k...........which leads you nicely to the next link - my scooby for sale......330bhp, reliable and will keep up with most evos whilst sounding a lot better........ I am in Glasgow if you are interested. Good luck with the hunting!!

Well I have been to see a STI 2007 model and was not impressed at all with the STI it felt like a mondeo. Not good are they all like this or is it big money to even reach the 340 bhp of a standard Evo

seems like you made a choice then. (if they felt like a mondeo think it would be cheaper for us all to own one of them ) have you driven an evo? the cost of running one is a bit higher than the scoob.

just my 2ps worth

Test drive both, I test drove an Evo 6 GSR and Evo 7, both were circa 300 bhp. When I test drove a few scoobies I decided the scooby character was better suited for me (more involving), I found with the Evo 7 especially, I was kind of guessing what the car was doing when pushing it and this put me off.

both great cars, Evo 6 is my favourite and probably one model I would like to own in the future

why not get an import then modify it? For 12k you could get a 2005 sti with below 15k miles and spend 1.5k modifying it to 330bhp 13.5k total spent! Uprate suspension to coilovers and do ARBs etc ~ 1k then £500 for your first weeks petrol ;-)

Evo 8 MR FQ 320, spend a grand on mods and you have 400 BHP with suspension and brakes to match as standard.

Or buy one already.

Mitsubishi : **** Mighty evo 8 Mr****

Definitely far too many driver aids on the evo, the car does all the driving for you. BTW when I talk about driver aids I'm obviously not talking about power steering, servo assisted brakes, all wheel drive and an active centre diff. I don't consider those to be driver aids cos my scooby has them also. So what's that left us with? Oh yeah, evos have AYC which is just an LSD which my scooby has as well but it's enough to let me accuse evos of doing all the driving for you.

If I was the OP I'd spend my money on a scooby. Get one like mine, it's blue and has gold alloys.

^^^Had my Evo VIII for about a month now and though I will admit that during an extreme manouver you can sense the assist it is a far more entertaining car to drive.

Even though I had a good handling package on the Impreza, I could never tell what it was up to and sometimes it did break away unexpectedly, albeit on the track. I personally find the Evo to be far more communicative and the steering far more direct which leads to you being able to build up a nice flow through a good set of bends.

Downside of the Evo is that the interior is even worse than the Impreza and that's saying something.

You will mate, but don't worry about it, the fact is whether you buy an Evo or an Impreza, 99% of the adult population will think you look like a **** anyway!
