nah, you still dont know what the engines been through, and at 140k old its surely in its middle ages regardless of treatment.
in comparison i payed £3900 for my t-plate uk classic and that was back in dec 06".
has 138k miles on the clock but a new engine at 70k. gearbox went last dec too. remembering the wear and tear of high mileage, nearly £3k is too much imho.

It depends and unfortunately unless you wire the owner up to a lie detector you will not know the truth.
My Supra has done 124000 and it hasn't been thrashed or driven hard. In the last few years I'm just an old man commuting to London so the engine is perfect. So it IS possible that the high mileage isn't important, but you can never tell.

It's too much IMHO as you will likely need a new engine before you get to 200k miles... not always the case, but highly likely. Think about the cost of a new engine and decide whether it is worth it or not... Are you willing to pay nigh on £3k for what will probably be no more than 60k miles?

£2800 isnt a bad price with full history, to put into perspective I sold a 92wrx with little history (only what I had spent on it) for 2k in december, If the new owner decided to strip it he would get more than that in parts alone. Mileage on mine was around about 140k, so £2800 for a much newer car with full history is bang on the button imo, I would have probably said about 3k.
Is it standard or modified? If standard then the chances are its been looked after, I mean how many people would keep the service history upto date at that mileage unless they really cared for the car.

have a quick gander on autotrader, see how many decent looking cars around 98' are being sold for £3k. as previously stated regardless of condition, things wear out like engines and gearboxes. the car could have not gone over 3k revs in 140,000 miles but it will still wear out.
between december and april things like petrol/car tax etc have shot up also so although cheap, the cars arent as desirable anymore which affects prices.
i stick to my point that i believe £2800 or even £3k *snigger* for a 140k mileage 98 impreza is too much. especially considering when you could find on with under 100k miles with full history for similar moneys.

SUBARUHIGHMILEAGECLUB.COM
Not all imprezas, but they can last IF looked after correctly (Serviceing, fluids and so on) and not driven on the rev limiter every where............ have a look in the gallery section.

Agree with CoB - £2800 is too high for 140k. Make a low offer if you think the car's sound. But these cars really can go the distance if looked after. Mine still feels great at 111k - I can easily believe it'll go on until 200k the way I drive it and look after it.

I did a straight swap for my Bmw convertible on an L plate not in the best condition for a MY99 with 138k on the clock and apart from replacing the clutch 7 months after I got I've had no problems....

its a fast car will have been driven hard regardless of how well its been looked after! componet wear is going to be your problem and i would imagine that lots of them will be close to the end of there natural life span.theres a reason alot companys get rid of cars after 100k reguardless of age and its because the are no longer economically viable! however there will always be exceptions to the rule! ya pays ya money and makes ya choice! what does anyone on here care its not our cash!!! were all idiots we own subarus

£2800 is fantastic value.
2 Owners, Mint, History?
Rare, very rare ...... if it's unmodified, that is!
If it's chavved up then leave well alone ... a Dump Value to Atmosphere will tell you to walk away or not, walk away if modified beyond a backbox is my very sound advice.
But, if it is a cherished example I would ABSOLUTELY pay a tiny £2800 to secure the services of it.

i wouldn't buy the car with that many miles on it. things will wear out, and the price you will pay over the next year/2 years, will probably add up to buying a good one in the first place. even if it was looked after i wouldn't have said it will last for ever. if you have money to throw at it to keep it going, then great go ahead, but if you have money to throw why not throw it at a nicer one to start with. youl end up with a better car.

I changed my front seats to RA blue ones and the chap who bought my OE seats brought his car along. It looked in cracking condition and had well over 150K. MY99 EU import. He'd owned it from new.
It looked amazing for its mileage and just shows how mileage shouldn't be an issue as long as its looked after.
I had to check it as I didn't believe him. He also claimed it was on the OE clutch but I felt that was pushing it

I bought mine a few months ago with 135k on the clock and so far no probs--uses no oil at all and a mate at work has a 60k wagon and has had loads of trouble.
If price reflects mileage then theres nothing wrong with a high miler,ok its a risk but as another thread on here at the mo you could loose the thick end of 14 grand selling a 2 year old scooby so 2800 is peanuts for lots of fun---i am happy with mine for what i paid

If ya think that's cheap I just sold my (not quite mint but near as dammit) MY98 UK Turbo 2000 with 105k miles on it, only mods when sold were discs, springs and aftermarket exhaust - went for a shade under £2k, a fair loss on what I paid for it but that was inevitable anyway as I was going for a quick sale.
