Dealer servicing & maintaining warranties
#1
Do you have to have your car serviced by a main dealer to maintain the warranty?
My wife's Volvo V40 is due its 30K service, and the nearest franchised dealer wants £295 inc VAT for what is basically oil, filter, spark plugs and the usual "inspection". I reckon this is a huge rip-off.
My only concern is that there's still 11 months (or 6000 miles) left on the 3-year warranty that came with the car when we bought it new. Will I void this by getting a local, reputable mechanic to do it? I'm not bothered about ultimate resale value.
Thanks for any advice.

I imagine all warrenties are the same - yes - you will have to go to the dealer to maintain the warrenty.
They always have you by the 'nads until it expires im afraid. Be glad you have large service intervals!!!

I thought that EU legislation stated that if work was undertaken by a suitably qualified person using OEM parts warrarties should remain valid.
Problem is, how receptive is your dealer likely to be when the profitable work goes elsewhere and you only arrive with time consuming low return warranty claims?
