If you can't sell it then the odds are they won't be able to either. It's a catch 22 but the only cars that you'll get a decent trade in for are the one you could shift easily yourself.

Various reasons why not.
1) Never came with a manufactures warranty, thus they won't want to offer one (parts from Subaru dealers)
2) Probably sceptable regarding mileage
3) Having to explain to potential buyer between UK & JDM cars
4) Most people want a UK car.
Plus what with the road tax, fuel duty etc, buyers wanting that sort of car are getting less.
Also. When you say they won't touch it, do you mean they won't take it, or are just offering stupid prices?
You bought your import as it was probably cheaper than getting a UK one. Their trade-in offer might reflect this too.
TBH all trad-in values of Impreza's are rubbish, not just yours.

I truly wasnt suprised - but 14K it just goes to show how much we are ripped off in the first place - rant mode on.
I think the biggest issue with imprezas is the fuel economy - it immediately switches people off - expecially now its 115p a litre. I've got a fuel card for mine and I still find it gauling.
Oh yeah - i only had one offer.

Car is now on 33k miles.

MY06 STI import
^^Thats your answer, right there^^
MY06 - 2 years old is a really bad time to sell a car bought new
STI - not many people want their fillings knocked out these days of no NHS Dentists
Import - again, not a saleable word .....
Dealers have their finger on the pulse of the used car market, they rarely get it wrong - watch them at the auctions and bid on what they bid on as that will be a hot seller for a few months/years.

From: Markyate.Imprezas owned:-wrx-sti5typeR-p1-uk22b-modded my00. Amongst others!
Anyone trying to sell on a newish Impreza after a year in the past several years has had the same problem with hard depreciation. The days of soild residuals for a youngish Impreza are well gone. I lost 14k on a P1 and expected to do so after 4 years of owning it.

Even back in 2002 when I bought my Scoob I did really well as residuals had started plummeting
The Bug Eye was the cause of the demise of the classics, Dealers knocked a shedload of money off them, putting them at 18.5k on the road, dutch etc imports at around 16k on the road, as the blob eye was due out, Blob eye sales werent as good as expected, then the hawkeye came out, too many changes in models pushed the value of the 2nd hand market of scoobs right down, that coupled with spiralling running costs, all of that is partly why I will probably never sell mine, as I know I will be lucky to get tuppence for it

Well i decided to spend 20-25k on a motor. Thought long and hard about a new STI, obviously putting what i needed to buy it cash outright. Now i love my Scoobies, but for less money i can get a 911 (996) cabriolet C2 with full GT3 kit and factory upgrades. 46000 miles FPSH or a tin top 911 C2/C4 with loads on it and superb at holding its value. So unless they are silly cheap then subaru is no more for me, at the mo. Sick of losing money on them tbh.

Is it an EU Import? - if so I wouldn't have thought it would be worth much less than the equivalent UK car. EU import STis were £21k new towards the end of last year so used prices will be relative to that.
How many miles has it done and how much do you want for it?
Cheers,
Ian.

ian - to be honest - i'd take 12K, its got 27500 miles, with prodrive springs. Probably needs some new boots in 2000 miles. No dings a minor scratch on the wing mirror.
Its got a PPP backbox on - which i was going to take off and sell on scoobynet. But if someone on here wants the car they can have it with the BB on.

Went to a few dealers yesterday looking for a car for the mrs. The local Honda garage have got a 02 Bug Eye STI on the forecourt for £9750 and the sales bloke was stood next to my wagon when i came back to it. Made a joke about "hope you aren't selling my car" as i'd actually parked in a sales space (all other spaces full) and the guy said they just can't shift them.
However, i went to the auction later and the same company (Phoenix) had sent a black 04 STi import there so it might well be that the import is really putting them off. The black car looked in good nick really and the 02 bug had morettes etc, looked a lot less saleable than the 04 car but they'd still bumped the 04 off to auction.

It's too much of an unknown for most dealers, Uk ones won't know anything about the car, also they won't be able to put a warranty on it.
The only place to really to buy/underwrite a car like that is a specialist, and they won't pay top money for it in case it's sat on their forecourt for months which could be the case in the current climate, dealers as much as consumers will want to play it safe.

11k?! I cannot believe that's all you got for it. OK, it's an import but still, that's an unbelievable price. Why didn't you try to sell it privately first? Surely you would have got more than that - I've never seen an 06 STI for sale for anywhere that sort of money... I think I'll be keeping my car for ever - there's no way I could part with it at those kind of values...

I had the same, and will probably struggle again now with my luck.
Feb 07 bought an 02 bugeye WRX, 6800
June 07 PX'ed it for 5400.
Had it up for sale for 6k, which was under market value, no serious offers, only idiots saying I will give you 5k
Now I have the Hawkeye WRX up for sale, again, just over 12k, good price.... no interest yet. The we buy your car people only offering £11,300.
Tempting to call it a day and settle with that tbh, but would rather see a few quid more coming back my way
Up for £12,250 at the mo, 1 call is all I have had, and no follow up on that yet.
I dont think its just the current market, I think they have always got sub average PX's and some struggle to sell.
PITA though eh!

When my old man was trying to sell his 2006 RS4, the amount of phone calls offering stupid prices was unbelievable. People phoning up to arrange a viewing then not turning up. Very frustrating.
Ended up trading it in at the dealer for his R8. Got far less than he wanted, but got more than anyone offered him privately.
The whole second hand market for performance cars is on it's knees.
Anyone who would pay the £37,995 Mitsubishi are wanting for the Evo X FQ360 would have to either be mad, or are willing to keep the car for 5+ years to justify the price.

Just chopped my Euro MY01 WRX for a 57 reg BMW 130i. I rang a few dealers and some were iffy about the import aspect others weren't. I would expect a JDM to have them sucking through teeth though as its a very specialist motor.
When I bought it new I paid slightly less than £18,000 and the p/ex was £4,500 which I thought was reasonable. £2k pa. depreciation on a Scoob. If I'd chopped it earlier then the cost pa. would have been more, so it pays to keep them.
TBH I think the bottom will fall out of the Scoob market (and I say that with regret) - too expensive to buy - too poor fuel economy - too expensive to tax, and I suspect the residuals will be poor. I'm the target market for the new STi, but it doesn't float my boat.
I thought £4,500 was a good offer and I didn't have to suffer lots of test pilots/worry of somebody knowing where there was a Scoob that could be nicked.
