Big commute in my 03 UK Sti???
Hi all,
I'm planning a trip to aberdeen from manchester (380 miles).
3/4 will be moterway miles.
My question is... what type of mileage will i get on the motorway?
Normaly I only make short motorway trip at night and thus I tend to floor it when i have the chance just for a little fun so I don't have an accurate MPG for the motorway.
How much will it cost, how can i keep the cost down, should i hire a diesel corsa for the trip
Cheers Guys

I have never ran my tank down but I bet you could get 260miles to a tank. so £65 ish for full tank of V-Power so for a return trip prob £195. Horrendous!!!!!! Buy a diesel rust box for £150 and put £50 fuel in lol

When I bought my current STI (05 with PPP) I drove it back home from London, a trip of around 240 miles, all motorway and doing 75ish most of the time. I filled it up at the very start of the journey, and it was just about completely empty when I got home. There's no way you'll get anywhere near to 300 miles out of a tank IMO, even if it were all motorway.

From wembley to Barnsley other week, I did 200 miles inc dropping mates off, and I used half a tank doing a steady70-80 mph and trying to keep it under 3k revs.
That was even before I had it mapped and was on esso premium stuff (1st time id used it aswell)
That was in a 03 sti ppp, if you go under 3k revs, it will go far.......for a scooby.

Mate, got 321 out of a tank in MY 05 Sti 2.0 was on fumes though and went past petrol station upon petrol station hoping to hit a Shell. Needless to say my stubborness did not pay off and i was walking 2 mile to an esso station. Anyway this was done on a full tank of V power driving at 70 - 80 all the way. Most other trips I get about 280 then feel the need to fill up when that light winks at me.

I'd never seen more than 180 miles from a tank (STI MY03) just had it mapped by Mocom and i've done 185 miles and have the bottom 1/4 marker left well pleased
When I had a long trip I went to a Kia garage and claimed I was considering buying a Kia Sedona and used that to rack up the mileage.
Only prob was they gave me the V6 version and it drank just as much fuel!
Least had no wear/tear.

Some of these poor fuel economy figures surprise me. I recently drove from Carlise to Nottingham and back - mixture of Motorway with some back B-roads thrown in. I achieved 28.3mpg and that was averaging 75-80mph on the mway sections. On the 70 miles of B-roads, I wasn't hanging around either. Oh, and this was all on a heavily modified 03STI making over 400bhp

I think the point that the original poster has to bear in mind is that everyone is arguing over a few mpg. 250 or 300 miles doesn't really make any difference. Driven on a regular basis, that mileage will become increasingly difficult to drive economically.
Now I appreciate I always say "BUY A DIESEL" but I'm sure everyone must see the sense in this case. Putting this kind of mileage on a Scoob will also cost a fortune in tyres and servicing and assuming you do it, say, once a week for a couple of years, will add 80,000 miles to your car and make it basically worthless. In fact, having just totted up that mileage I think driving any car is financial suicide and you'd be far better off flying. FlyBe do several flights a day between ABZ and MAN and because you could book well in advance you should be able to get a return ticket for about £60ish. If you need a car in Manchester then buy an old supermini for a grand and leave it parked on a back street. If someone nicks it or it gets damaged then who cares.

last year i managed to do 200mile in a fraction over half a tank.
filled it to the top at the start of the trip and when i arrived the needle was on half.
so going by the fact that i got a few miles done before the needle moved i reckon if i had carried on then i would have squeezed around 380mile to a full tank
that was about 95% motorway driving with no traffic and a very steady 65-70MPH (if not slightly slower at times)
this was done in a 53 plate STi with PPP
the key is to keep the turbo of boost and then its not to bad, also things such as accerlerate down downhill and coast uphill where ever possible will help save fuel.
Try where possible not to use the brakes if you can slow down in time by lifting off the accellerator then do that instead.
as your jorney is not completly motorway miles i reckon you can get there and on two and half tanks which is averaging 300mile to a tank

i drove to croatia and back 1300 miles each way on 4 fills no probs most expensive part was nottm to dover £40 ish 240 miles and that was at 80/85 mph most of the way the trick is not too much gas as previously mentioned if you press hard and its spooling up to 6000 rpm then your gona use fuel at an alarming rate and if not then i think its much the same as any other 20l vehicle the wifes lexus is200 used a similar amount on the same journey as does my isuzu trooper but i do tend to go alot faster in the lexy

Just done return London-Aberdeen, was getting about 25-26mpg at reasonable pace. Filled up after 320 miles in a standard 02 WRX and it only took 54 litres, suggests I had about 6 left. Light was on for about 10 miles.

On a trip from Essex to the Lake District I got 265miles still had about a quarter of a tank left! (MY03 STi) It was a steady run (a 1.0 litre corsa was part of the group )
Worked out to about 30mpg if I remember correctly.

I've has 340 out of my STI which worked out at just over 30mpg.
use this and you'll see what you're getting MPG calculator UK miles per Gallon - calculate MPG

I get between 15-21 out of WR1.
At normal M1 speeds about 80ish still only get 21. If I have to pussyfoot around to get more mpg I'll get a turbo diesel. bags of torque and the mpg.
As a comparison, couple of years ago we drove to south of France did 2500mls in Vectra 2.6Sri averaged 26mpg and was doing 100mph for hours.
So why are Imprezas so thirsty compared to a normally aspirated car at same speed?
The emphasis seems to be on getting more and more power when on boost but when off boost and the engine is relatively lightly loaded, eg motorway cruising the air/fuel ratio is still very rich, why, its a low compression engine and it must be possible to get better economy?
If I could get 30mpg out of the WR1 I'd be a happier man.
