Anyone does 80 miles a day in their Scooby ??
Whats a classic scooby like for doing an 80 mile round trip each day ?
i'm just wondering, i may use my car for work and wondered if it was possible, or a focus diesel may be the alternative solution.
PS> my scooby makes me
so there is driving satisfaction to take into account.
Cheers.

It's a UK WRX but it now has my RA engine in it due to it blowing up on the last owner.
It will have some mods on it - exhaust, air filter, FMIC, fuel rail mod, Warlbro, 440's and a FE TD05.
It's not on the road yet, but it will be mapped once its back on the road and hopefully the map will aid the economy, i have seen the Jolly Green Monster say that mapping usually aids fuel economy.

Used to do M5 J2 (Oldbury) to M5 J9 (Tewkesbury) and back everyday in my old Scoob (MY00 UK Classic). That was about 80 miles. Did that commute for just over one and a half years. Loved it in the Scoob though, think I have permanent hearing damage thanks to the H&S full de-cat soundtrack everyday
Did cost a fortune in fuel and servicing. Could just about get 30mpg if I was really gentle Insurance was a bit tricky too, my insurers at the time said they could only cover up to 15k mileage a year, they had to speak with the underwriters before authorising 30k.
To be honest if I'd had the space for a second car then I wouldn't have used the Scoob for commuting. Also didn't realise at the time that I would be doing that commute for so long, moved in with my girlfriend while we looked for a place to buy together.
Finally moved to Worcester so halved my commute then wrote off the Scoob a few months later

I do 70 miles a day. I know mine's not a classic ('55 plate), but after a long night shift I do find it hard going sometimes. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't change, just feel like a lighter clutch in the traffic, and nice spongy suspension on occasions. You'll prob have days like that too, especially with a modded car. Obviously it's the fuel is the worst bit.
The 70 miles do pass by quite quickly though

Gutted !! (for you, that you wrote the car off)
i may be car sharing with my best mate so the annual mileage may be less, but i hadn't thought of the insurance and the mileage, does it affect it greatly? (i app. more miles means higher risk etc)
how slow will i have to drive
That Focus Diesel is looking favourable, i dont want to sell her

130 miles a day for my commute. I have done it with the following scoobs so far;
STi 3 MY97
JDM WRX MY03
JDM STi 8 MY04
UK 2000 MY00
WRX PPP MY05
No probs with any but ended up with the WRX as it is more comfortable for motorway miles. That said, after 3 years of scoob hammering I now commute in a Rover 216 and save the scoob for best

I do over 60 a day between Hants & Isleworth, and it's absolutely fine - I've done the same commute for years in it. But mine's a UK, and JDM classics have a much shorter top gear - not great for motorways.

I use my car for work, and it works out at around 650 miles a week. My actual commute to the office is only 30 miles round trip - somedays I may be in the office all day, others half way across the country. The biggest problem is fuel costs.
Are using the car just as a daily commute, or actually using the car for work ? Its worth checking your insurance, as the majority of insurance policies only cover you for social use and travelling to and from your place of work. If you are going to be using the car every day as part of your job its worth getting cover for "use in connection with the policyholders business".
I know my insurance is a lot higher due to the high mileage and high risk profession.

that's just it you see...i dropped the engine (2.0 RA) that i took out of my Blue wide arch project onto an engine stand while the 2.5 is built.
While this was sitting on the stand i came accross a Red WRX with a blown engine, hey presto my 2nd scooby - soon to be on the road.
So while my Blue project is still giving the bank manager a major headache i'm hoping to get my red car on the road and using it to commute with.
If the costs are too hight the girlfriend may get on her high horse and try to get me to sell it for a practical Diesel........NNNOOOOOO !!!!!!

You do know how much 80 miles per day is going to cost in fuel, don't you? Realistically that is going to be 3 gallons. Before anyone moans that assumes he is going to be driving in the rush hour with an initially cold engine. That is £15 per day, £75 per week, £300 per 28 days or £3,900 per year on petrol.
80 miles per day is 400 miles per week, 1,600 miles per 28 days or 20,800 miles per year. I'll let you work out the cost of tyres, servicing, brakes etc for that kind of usage. Unless you earn a lot of money and live in a part of the country where houses prices are stupidly low then I would suggest it would be financial suicide to even contemplate this much commuting in a Subaru. Don't forget you'll be using the car outside work too so the total running costs will be even higher.

yep those figures are scary aren't they. I do about 110 miles each day, and the fuel prices have just forced me into selling my beloved Audi RS4 .... - it cost me nearly £800 in petrol last month, which clearly could not continue.
The scoob actually seems quite frugal in comparison, although I see a small cheap hatchback in my near future, for weekday driving

yep i came to the same conclusion last night while putting some figures together. approx £19/20 a day in fuel alone
Anyone got a Focus Diesel for sale ???
or do i go LPG on the scooby for motorway driving

I'm having to do 88 miles a day to get to and from work atm (in a 05 wrx PPP), and I've never learned to ease off with the right foot... So I'm visiting the shell station every other day. But as everyone says "its not about the miles its all about the smiles", although try telling my credit card that. Seriously I definatly don't reccomend it, the comfort factor is ok, but I am thinking of selling a kidney for fuel.

(used to cost a bit more before a remap!!)

I used to travel about 115 miles a day round trip to the office and back which used cost me about £23/ day. I found it fine comfort wise in the WRX, even with Prodrive springs. There is no way that I would do that kind of daily mileage in the Evo.....
