Have I Done The Right Thing???? And, Will I regret It???
Today, I couldn't believe what I was looking at.
V Power £1.2199a Litre!!!
A quick calculation, 50 litres @ that rate £60.95 to fill up the Scoob.
The ordinary Shell was £1.13 £56.50.
It is my own car, I use it for business and, up till now the Scoob has been a bit pampered.
Just ask Wifelet, she moaned about the cold this Winter Kipping in the Garage however, she soon got used to it.
And the Scoob??
It was next to me in the warm Bedroom.
I have done around 120 miles in it today.
So far no problems ( re all the posts on here about putting "Donkey Dirt" in yer Scoob) and Knock sensors & stuff.
The reality is, I can't afford to put in the Gold Stuff anymore.

As I said in Germany .85 a litre, a big difference.
Also £400 plus for "Road Tax"
Not sure what to do
I love my Scoob, won't part with it.
Perhaps the Banks will help, after all we,the Tax payers (MUGS) are helping them!!

Interesting. If you have reached your ceiling price for SU then what will you do when regular unleaded is that price? I don't think it is unreasonable to predict maybe 130p for regular unleaded at some point this year so would you keep the Scoob then? Just curious really

As your car is an 03 your ECU will self calibrate to lower RON fuel by detecting knock sensor readings etc and will settle down and run ok on 95 RON fuel, you won't have quite as much power and your MPG may drop a bit.

Do you know, I'm starting to feel guilty already?
I went out on the drive tonight just to see how it was, no sweats, runny noses or anything.
That's what THEY ("they" are Politicians, Oil Companies) BANK ON. THEY know that we love our cars and, will make sacrifices ( See Wifelet Sleeping In The Garage) and will find the money from somewhere.
I drive around 25,000 miles a year, around 4 Tanks a week, £20 a week more than last month (at £5 a tank more)
But wait a minute, that's almost £10 a tank more since last Sep.
Times 4, £40 a week, £2,000 a year more, Insurance, up £50 a year , Tax £400 or Plus £200 on last year.
I make that, £2,300 plus a year more or, £44.80 a week more.
And "BROWN CLOWN" says inflation is running at just over 2% a year!!

thankfully my scoobs a bit of a kept beast as well, but at these sort of costs itl be like a bike soon,taxed for 6 months and taken out on sunny days.
unfortunately for work i have to run a 4x4(forestry contractors) which at the moment is doing about 30 mpg ona round trip of 150 miles a day at 1.24 a litre for diesel,then when i get to work i use an excavator which uses 150-00 litres a day at,as of today,deep breath, 63p a litre for red diesel!!!!! was 53 two weeks ago,the robbing b88888s are killing me every way

I reckon you could probably "mix it up" a little ie. buy 1 tank in three of Super or something, in order to assuage your conscience 
that way you'll still be getting some of the much-vaunted 'engine-cleaning' qualities of the more expensive stuff .....
can't talk myself though ... these rising prices just forced me into selling my 8-month old Audi RS4. More on a point of principle really - the bugger cost me nearly £800 in petrol the last month I ran it.......
The scoob is quite frugal in comparison TBH

Plus council tax increase £80
Gas, electric and water £140
Road Tax £120
Speed Tax £60 'The only one that is value for money'
That is £2300 pounds increase to cost of living and I have not included Mortgage rates. Many of those increases are the similar no matter what your income. Big increases happened the year before this also!

Sorry, but I often hear classic owners saying this and I have to jump in.
I have a MY03 Blobeye WRX, it's a UK car and on the inside of the fuel flap there is a sticker, put there by Subaru, that says "98 RON MINIMUM".
UK classics are fine with 95 normal ul but UK newages (at least all the Blobs I have seen and asked about) have this sticker on the inside of the fuel flap.
Plus as you say you have had it mapped for 99 RON, although the odd tank probably wont do any lasting damage personally I wouldn't chance it, if I ever found myself in the situation that I couldn't fill up with 99 then I'd put in only enough 95 to see me to the next petrol station and fill her up with the good stuff.

Mate, with all due respect, under a fiver for a full tank, is it worth it, even on a std car?
If yours has been mapped for 99 and you're using 95, then you're taking a big chance, the car will be prone to det under boost and it could cost you your engine!
Pay the extra, and jut don't buy that copy of FHM that week!

alan, up here in scunny v-power is around £1.119-£1.129 a litre. normal unleaded at shell is around £1.049 if i remember.
i hate it as much as the next person, these rdiculous prices, but still fork out the extra ££ for v-power, as the car has been run on it (99 uk classic) since the day i bought it 18 months ago.
cant comment on the newage, but with mods, remap etc, you will have to be careful, unless the map is adjustable for different grades of fuel.

c o b, do you paint as well as sketch? as your talent could easily earn you a living if you market it right, i.e. a decent website, and free art exhibitions exhibiting your work with your framed work up for sale at your local library for example. contemporary sketches and paintings would do well. as would more technical art, although that would appeal to a narrower audience. do you have any examples of work you could post or currently have for sale, you could display in the for-sale section in some relatively cheap frames on here to start to gauge interest, anyway, goodluck.

With the economy the way it is I suspect a great many peoples disposable income is falling dramatically and other than feeling the pinch have not stopped to work out why! erm not really that developed to be honest. i draw when and as orders come in.
the work takes too long to earn a living unless i hiked up my prices by around 250-300%. definatley not enough work to make a portfolio, as i draw and post to whoever ive drawn for. dont really do painting, never have, im a technical illustrator.

On a more serious note, over 1.20 a litre is shocking. I got V power today near Lanark for 1.14...and that is a garage that is expensive in the area! Theres another one about 10 miles further away thats at 1.12 at the moment.
