tax disc hike NOT green
Its all about the cash..... NOT the green issues...
'Useless' green levy on drivers rakes in £4bn - Telegraph
If you can afford a car that takes extra funds too run; you can afford more tax. The green issues are rubbish (thats what tax on fuel is all about- the more you burn, the more you pay).
They are taking us for mugs; big time. 4 billion pounds worth of p!ss taking. They really think we are fools.....

It will make very little difference at the moment. However, if this is the first of a series of rises then the end result will be very significant. You also have to remember that these increases come at a time of spiraling petrol prices which make an extra £200 on a tax disc seem pretty inconsequential. I also suspect a lot of performance cars are owned by people who can only just afford them and it won't take much to push them over the edge.

I agree as my opinion of this government is that if they can push the bottom 20% of people to give up motoring and prevent about 50% of people to buy a cheaper and smaller car then they will easily meet their demands of reduced CO2 but they will still enable themselves and other people of similar status to own and run what they like,

"the Telegraph has seen Treasury projections which disclose that while the amount raised from car tax will more than double - from £1.9 billion to £4.4 billion by 2010 - carbon dioxide emissions from motoring are expected to drop by less than one per cent".
Agree with the OP above, Govt must think that the voting population are mugs to take this on the chin

And if we voted Dave the Chameleon, sorry, Cameron, in tomorrow, do you think for ONE MINUTE the Tories would forgo THAT windfall?
Here we have a government that's raking £117 MILLION EXTRA per week in VAT because of the high price of fuel. Have THEY given up even a portion of it to help out beleaguered motorists? Nope. And have WE done ANYTHING? Nope again

It would be great if we could do something. The government really do have our pants down in the uk. I think we should keep our tax discs in the glove box and replace them with driftworks stickers and maps of the nurburgring. Just to say, i dont know, up yours Labour.

Do the members of the government drive small engined cars, I doubt it. The price of petrol and road tax wouldnt even bother them as i bet they claim it as part of their work expenses
