Default Black Diamond Performance Discs

Evening all,
I was wanting some quick advice with regards to a brake disc change and posted in the 'wheels, etc' forum. Though should have realised that it's not as popular a section as here. So basically my original question is below and the link to the thread is here. I'll be trying to purchase them in the morning so any replies would be of use. I have one regarding the braided hoses under the original post.

"Hello all,

I'm looking to buy some Black Diamond discs to accompany the Mintex Extreme pads I still have sitting in my garage. In fact I'm looking to buy the discs in the next 24hours as I have an MOT coming up.

Now has anyone had experience of them? And which do I go for? Grooved, drilled or combination?

They'll be on a Bugeye JDM STI with Brembos if that helps.

Also, as it's a pad and disc change are those braided brake lines actually worth it?

Any replies appreciated,
Thanks."

Thanks everyone.

I'm using grooved Black Diamond Disc's with Ferodo DS2500 pads and Subaru 4 Pot Calipers (discs+calipers bought off an SNet member).

Working really well for me, not had any issues with them so far and no vibration under hard braking.

Thanks, kinda what I was after. And after search Snet I'll be going for the grooved alone. I think (hope) I've managed to source all four discs for under £350 hence Black Diamond - oh and the black phosphate coating

I asked the same sort of q's a month or so ago mate, ended up going up to £569 and getting the performance friction set up, also bought braided hoses and decent silkolene brake fluid, getting fitted tommorow so cant let you know how good they are etc but they were highly recommende by all on here, group buy on at moment as well.

Good luck.

I have been running these discs (grooved) on the front with DS2500 pads for almost a year and they are ok. I think I paid around £140 for the fronts from Subaru4U in Newbury (although they were fitting them for me).

You'll love them Mac. The Performance Friction brakes are truly excellent

Hey Mac,

cheers for the reply. I had seen the GB and good response from the Performance Friction set up. However just a little too much for me as I want fronts and rears, I already have a Brembo set-up and don't plan to do any track work - not to mention upcoming major service and remap

Will be following you on the braided hoses and good fluid though.

Hope you get on alright with the PF set-up. I've gone for the BD grooved option now.

Thanks for the comments. Seem to be getting all round good reviews and I'm only after a decent fast road set-up. Can't see me be on a track anytime soon and if I was I'd be in the novice section Decided on the grooved set-up and now ordered! Cheers

Get grooved + vented in the correct size for your brakes. I have always avoided drilled + grooved discs as I was always told they can warp and crack easily (experienced this on my BMW but not sure if it was due to cheapo discs or the X drilled pattern).

I'm using the grooved Black Diamonds with Pagid Blue pads.
They are superb but under heavy braking the make a loud droning noise due to the grooves. No vibration or fade though - excellent choice!

I am glad someone else experiences this. Thought it was just me and I had a problem somewhere. Feel better now...unless we both have problems with the brakes
