Default Changed my mine from 500 to 450BHP

Was going for 2.33ltr 500BHP but have changed my mine due to the cost so im now going for SC450 2.5ltr with stronger liners also rods & pistons etc that will be capable of so much more, polished & ported RA heads with DH22 cams, think thats right SC50 turbo, i want more torque than HP, hopefully looking for 450+BHP/500+torque
So does anyone think there will be much difference between the 2.33 with twisted gt30r and 2.5 with SC50, was going to have a possible 500BHP & torque would have been somewhere near that i think, i do know that with the SC450 deal i will get 450BHP & 480-490ftlbs, hope this makes sence Good decision or not

No sense at all!

Might want to get the mods to move it to the "Projects" forum

Basicly i was having a 2.33 rebuild done having 500BHP but cos of the cost & money ive gone for the SC450 2.5 from scoobyclinic so was just wondering if i would feel much difference in the power between 500BHP & 450BHP but dont think there will be much difference in torque levels.
SC50 turbo is a 500BHP turbo, the GT30r is a 520BHP turbo.

I think its will depends on which turbo spool the quicker really ....as 30-40bhp is not alot of difference

the difference will be how it drives with the 2.33 it would be much quicker excelleration as it will rev harder because of the shorter stroke, i wouldnt have thought there wouldnt be that much in it cost wise!as you have to purchase the short engine an presumably you already have a 2 litre block? have you checked scoobymania/ area 52 as they are doing 500bhp 2.5 builds at a very reasonable price! and there not very far from sc.. just a thought

Shorter stroke?

Both the 2.5 and the 2.33 use the EJ257 crank which has a 79mm stroke!!

Also the only additional cost if your relinering the 2.5 is the cost of the twisted turbo setup.

Relinering will be the same on either blocks i.e circa £1200-£1500.

If you're keeping the 2.5 Block standard and just swapping rods and pistons then block integrity becomes an issue at 500bhp.

You could do a 2.33 with the SC50 turbo thus saving the cost of a rotated turbo/ external wastegate setup thus saving around £1400.

Personally I'd go the whole hog and do the 2.33 with rotated setup. It would be as close to bullet proof as you can get and very quick indeed.

The cost of having 2.2 closed deck machined to 2.33, then there is GT30r turbo, down pipe, 44mm wastegate, and some pipe work, clutch & flywheel balanced, crank balanced, that was the extra cost,
The 2.5 block has already had liners done and have been told that they are a new design and are stronger than standard and have been told that they will not drop. Im not really after 500BHP im more interested in the torque levels which i believe you get more from a 2.5ltr than the 2.33ltr what is the limit on a 2.5 block, BHP & Torque cant make my mind up now

from what i've been lead to believe alot of difference in cost.

been looking at the same thing on mine and its a whole different ball game when you start going near the 500bhp mark, its not inmpossible to do by any stretch, but iots the sort of teritory where a few extra bhp costs a hell of alot of money.

For what its worth, I have a rotated GT30R on a stock 2.5 bottom end running 460bhp at 1.6 bar.

It will be the semi closed EJ257 block.
They dont have thick liners and are prone to splitting due to the lack of thickness in one of the block to block bolt recesses.

If you're considering running one at 500 bhp then be prepared to rebuild it.

Its been an issue for some and not for others. General consensus is over 500bhp on a EJ257 block is considered liner territory. Liners on these blocks have been known to frequently drop.

You don't need to have your clutch or flywheel balanced or indeed the crank.
Even if you did it would be the same whether 2.33 or 2.5.

Incedently the crank used in both instances i.e the standard EJ257 crank are known to be extremely well balanced out of the factory.

As said 2.33 are more expensive but they have more than proven themselves.

Do it right and only have to do it once.

Twisted setup for 500bhp is a waste of cash as there are some good standard fit turbo's that are just as good but much cheaper

Im not going to run it at 500BHP , it will be 450+bhp and possibly 490 to 500 ftlbs, I thought maybe 2.33 with the SC50 turbo would be a good idea but price would still be similar if i went for twisted set up,
SC50 turbo is £1195+vat
GT30R is £799+vat then you have the wastegate £250+vat & down pipe not sure how much but lets say £300+vat Total £1350
But there is probably more work involved when building the 2.33 than the 2.5

Rotated up/downpipes will set you back best part of £800

I got mine from RCMS.
They do a kit which consists of up pipe, down pipe, gaskets bolts and turbo bracket for £699 plus Vat.

The cost of having 2.2 closed deck machined to 2.33
If you are using a 2.2 CDB, then you should not need to machine it to get it to 2.33, only to accept the EJ257 crank (about £200 if I remember correctly). The extra capacity comes from using the EJ257 crank (effectively stroking the motor) with rods and pistons to suit. You should really speak to Mark at Lateral Performance before making a decision.

You're forgetting the cost of an EJ22T block in the first place.

Circa £800 and that's if you can find one.

The majority are done on the EJ20 CDB so the linering cost does apply!

We can re-sleeve any block (EJ20/EJ22/EJ25) out to take our top hat liners. Cost is £600+VAT. The material used and more importantly the way they are installed is critical. We have had to resleeve a number of blocks that have been poorly sleeved by people who don't know what they are doing. Personally I would not re-sleeve an EJ257 if the output is only going to be 450bhp.

With regard to rotated set ups (for 450bhp+) they work out to be much more expensive to buy and install than a comparative bolt on turbo. We have 3 different specs of bolt on turbos here that will make over 450bhp, our 2L car currently runs 520bhp with a bolt on. If you are aiming for 550bhp plus then rotated is the best way.

You must be having a laugh. As if you're going to notice the difference between 450 and 500 bhp . Dear o dear. You obviously know what you're doing although whenever you give us an update I wonder if you REALLY know what you're doing.

What mineral were you initially mining? It will be a logistical nightmare to change from one mine to another, but, if you're adamant in doing so change your current one to a gold mine

A word of advice - watch out for those bloody land mines.

Hope this helps.
